This was just a writing warm-up of sorts... but here I am, posting it haha. Take this in the meanwhile, as I work on requests!
Hope you enjoy!! ♡♡♡

Papyrus had been avoiding fireworks for as long as you had known him. The mere mention made him recoil in disgust, which seemed peculiar, since he had the taste for very outlandish and exciting things.

He loved to do karaoke; one thing you found resembled fireworks, especially when experiencing it with Undyne. Most karaoke sessions took place amongst people being intoxicated with cheap, watered-down beer. Even when Papyrus was entirely sober, he loved to put on a hypnotic show.

The lights flashing an intense rainbow of synthetic beauty, Papyrus's vocals meeting ranges only audible to dogs. He liked things loud and bright, so you would assume he would like fireworks as well.

You had only been dating him for around a year, and you were finally sharing your first summer together. The time of fireworks began to draw near, and the hype of the season increased. You felt as giddy as a child when the carnival was returning for the warm months.

"Papyrus, want to take a drive down town with me~?" You sung, anticipating his hyper reaction.

He blinked. "WHY, Y/N? DO YOU HAVE TO RUN ON AN ERRAND?? IT'S ALREADY QUITE LATE..."

After your successful persuasion, the two of you hopped in his car and drove to the broadwalk. All kinds of rides were spinning and dancing across the horizon, their glowing bodies twisting and twirling to skim the night sky.

"Look! Look!!" You pointed from your seat, gesturing to all the contraptions you were fond of.

Papyrus's response was minimal. He stared uncomfortably as his gaze landed on the ferris wheel. Couples held hands and rushed toward the extraordinary spinning wheel, big bags of candy floss wrapped around their arms.

He was quiet. Contemplative.
He refused to look away.

"Are you alright, Papyrus?" You asked fearfully.

The tall skeleton simply cleared his throat, glancing at you and forcing a tight smile. "DID YOU WANT ME TO TAKE YOU TO THE CARNIVAL THIS WEEK?"

"Do you want to? You seem off."

"Y-- YOU DESERVE TO GO. LET'S DO IT, JUST FOR THE FUN OF IT...!" His hesitation was unnerving.

The car swerved as he drove you back home. As a devoted, composed driver, he never even dared to violate any safety regulations.

But here you sat, the cool blades of grass tickling your ankles, eyes locked on the setting sun. Papyrus sat dutifully next to you, tucked back away inside that shell of silence.

The fireworks were about to start.
"Papyrus, seriously." You pestered. "What is going on?"

"... WHAT DO YOU MEAN? THE FIREWORKS..." He flushed slightly, "THEY'RE ABOUT TO START. THAT'S WHAT'S GOING ON-!"

"I know that, silly," You chuckled. "What I meant was... why are you being so quiet? Do you not like carnivals?"

His gaze softened. He looked at you, smiling wide. "I suppose I should tell you... I was in a relationship with someone before."

The only reason you were shocked was because of his lack to mention this previously. He must have moved on quickly, or at least covered up any trace of missing that other someone.

You rubbed your arm shyly, feeling ashamed to hear the news but admittedly glad-- if he hadn't broken up with that person, your relationship would have been at a high risk.

You decided to hum sympathetically, urging him tenderly to resume.

"SHE WAS WITH ME FOR A WHILE, AND SHE ABSOLUTELY ADORED CARNIVALS... FERRIS WHEELS WERE HER FAVORITE." He looked down sadly, fidgeting his thumbs.

"I set her expectations too high. I promised to take her, but my fear of heights made it impossible."

"What was she like?" You prodded calmly, curious yet cautious.

"Her name was Marilyn. She was a bit like you, with a pretty smile and pretty eyes."

You were jealous, but tried to swallow the emotion whenever it flared. You had imagined yourself being the only person to ever fall in love with Papyrus.

It was not suprising that he had dated before; he was irresistible as a friend, and even more so as a boyfriend. He was such an open, honest, and caring guy.

You wanted to be his crutch, you wanted to support him. For him to lean on you, and for you to assist him in healing.

"Did she break up with you...?"

"Long before you and I met, Marilyn and I began to drift apart." He sighed, grabbing your hand suddenly.

Slowly, he leaned forward and pulled it to his own face, giving each knuckle a kiss. "But you're my firework now. So let's enjoy this together as a couple... it feels so much better just being here with you!"
