Chapter 8

Gab's POV

Days after what happened people were avoiding me. They would look away whenever I looked at them, scared and bothered by my presence.

The way that they treat me feels like I'm some kind of a monster. However, I can't blame them. I almost killed half of them. I'm really ashamed of what I did.

So I isolated myself from all of them, including the one that I'm close with. I decided that I won't be with them as much as possible until I can fully control my shadows.

Ability training will start tomorrow and I will take that opportunity to be better. I don't want to harm anyone again.

"Penny for your thoughts?" Kai sat beside me under the tree. He's been with me these past few days. Tinataboy ko siya pero masyado itong makulit at lapit pa din ng lapit kaya hinayaan ko nalang.

"The ability training tomorrow. I'm worried." I replied. Even though I'm determined to train, there's still a part of me that is scared of what I can do.

"Hala, pa'no kung sumabog buong training room dahil sayo tapos ma-expelled ka tapos hindi na ulit tayo magkikita." He exaggerated. Binatukan ko naman siya. Hindi siya nakakatulong.

"Mabuti yon para lubayan mo na ako. Wala kang dulot." sabi ko bago tumayo para kuhanin ang bag at mga librong dala. Dito ako madalas na nagpupunta kapag gusto kong mapag isa. Tinatakasan ko ang mga pinsan ko.

"Ayoko. Pake mo ba." Hindi ko na siya pinansin at iniwan na don. Bilib talaga ako sa sarili ko't nakakayanan kong makisama sa lalaking yon. Kung anong sama ng ugali ng kapatid niya, siya naman itong ubod ng katarantaduhan.

I have a herbology class and I saw Kamill waiting for me at the entrance of the classroom. Nang makita niya ako ay agad siyang ngumiti at kumaway. Pumasok na kami agad dahil malapit na mag umpisa ang klase.

"The monster has arrived." Bungad ni Lauren na nakatayo sa bandang harapan.

Napahinto sa pagkukwento si Kamill at umastang papatulan pa ang isa ngunit agad ko na siyang hinatak papunta sa upuan namin. Hindi na siya nagsalita pa at inabala na lang ang sarili. Napabuntong hininga naman ako.

Ipinagpapasalamat ko na naiintindihan nila ang sitwasyon ko. Hindi sila nag tanong pa tungkol sa nangyari at nagpatuloy sa buhay ng parang normal lang.

I'm lucky I have them.

"Sit down, children." Pumasok na si Miss Daphne, our herbology class professor. May dala itong isang painting ng maamong babae. Nakangiti ito habang napapalibutan ng bulaklak.

"Does anybody know who this is in the painting?" Nakangiting tanong ng guro. Naglalakad ito paikot ng classroom.

"How about you, Mr. Hargreeves." Itinuro nito ang lalaking kakapasok lang ng room. He's late.

Huminto ito para sumagot. "Chloris, a goddess who is often associated with flowers and spring."

"Good. Now I suggest that you attend my class early next time." Tumango lang ang lalaki bago maupo sa likod na parte ng classroom. He looks like the walking dead.

"Let's proceed."

"Chloris is indeed a goddess. But before, she was abducted by Zephyrus, god of the west wind, who transferred her to a deity known as Floris after they were married. She became the goddess of flowers and a nymph of the Islands of the Blessed." paliwanag ng guro.

"Now, let us talk about the different kinds of plants that are very well known in our history." Nagtungo si Miss Daphne isang hilera ng mga bulaklak na nasa harap ng klase.

"The Akoniton or Aconite that is also called Monkshood, Wolf's bane and more. This plant is a very famous poison used by the ancients. It's leaves and roots are so toxic that it could kill any living being without immediate medical attention."

Miss Daphne lifted a jar that has a colour bluish-purple flower inside. It must be the aconite. I have read books that mentioned that flower many times.

"They say that the goddess of wisdom, Athena, used this to transform Arachne into a spider."

I didn't know how cruel the gods could be.

"But now it is often used when hunting. They would apply the poison to their arrows. Today, it's really rare to find this plant. Some say a god or a goddess hid every single aconite plant for it is a very lethal plant."

Binaba na ng guro ang garapon at nagpatuloy sa pagtuturo ng iba't ibang klase ng halaman. She taught a lot of things and she explained its origin and uses. I really adore her way of teaching.

"Dawson.." Napahinto ako ng may tumawag sa'kin. It was the school prefect, although I don't know her name.

"Miss Clio wants to see you in her office." Napakunot naman ang noo ko bago tumango at nagpasalamat sa kanya.

Agad akong nagtungo sa office ni Miss Clio. Habang naglalakad ay nararamdaman kong nanlalamig ang kamay ko. May palagay akong tungkol ito sa nangyari nung isang araw.

Nasa harap na ako ng kanyang pintuan ngunit bumuntong hininga muna bago hawakan ang doorknob.

Several shelves of books greeted me when I entered the office. I also saw a lot of instruments. Maybe our headmistress has a passion for music.

"Gabriella.." Natigilan ako sa pagtitingin ng mga instrumento ng marinig ko si Miss Clio. Nilagpasan ko ang mga shelves hanggang sa makarating ako sa gitnang parte ng office.

And there I saw some familiar faces.

"What can I do for you, headmistress?" tanong ko.

"I would like to ask a favour for you." Nakangiti nitong saad. Nagtaka naman ako dahil akala ko'y papagalitan niya ako dahil sa nangyari.

Nilibot ko naman ang tingin ko sa mga taong nandito sa loob ng office. Kai was unfortunately one of them and he's waving at me. I rolled my eyes at him and turned my attention to Miss Clio.

"What is it?" Wala ng paligoy ligoy pang saad ko. Inabot ko ang isang figurine na naka-display sa table ni Miss Clio. It looks like a woman dressed gracefully with a lyre beside her.

"Before that, I'm going to introduce you first to them." saad ni Miss Clio at lumapit sa limang taong nakatayo sa gilid.

"I assume you already know most of them, especially Kai since he's been waving at you the moment you enter my office." Tumango lang ako habang si Kai naman ay tuwang tuwa pang kumaway ulit.

"Why don't you introduce yourselves?"

"I'm Levi. Son of Apollo. We've met before." I remembered him. He's the student nurse that visited me when I was in the infirmary.

"I'm Ellaine Crawford. We're friends." Napailing naman ako dahil sa sinabi niya. Nabaling naman ang atensyon ko sa katabi niya at nanliit ang mata ko habang pinagmamasdan siya.

"Subukan mong hindi ako makilala, kokotongan kita." Inirapan ko si Jade at nilagpasan.

"Callum." Huminto ako sa harap nito na tipid lang na nagpakilala. Saglit ko pa siyang tinitigan bago tumikhim.

"Well, you all knew me. The infamous offspring of the God of the Underworld, Gab." I sarcastically introduced myself. Natahimik sila.

"Now to what I owe you a favour, Miss Clio." Humarap ako ng seryoso sa headmistress. The atmosphere completely changed when I asked.

"I'm going to give you a mission."
