I'm shaken awake while someone's yelling my name. "Violet, come on baby, wake up! Please! Come on!" I flutter my eyes open and see Shane crouching above me looking as if he's on the edge of a break down.
I try to groan, but it comes out as a whimper when I feel a pain shoot threw my head. Shane's face looses all emotion before a rush of happiness and relief rushes threw it. "Oh god, I thought you were gone. Holy shit." He wraps me in his arms shaking slightly. I snap out of my confusion and rub his back. "Hey, shh, I'm ok. Stop shaking. What happened?" He loosens his hold on me looking me over to make sure I'm really ok; before getting up. He helps me up and my head starts to throb causing me to squeeze my eyes shut. "What's wrong?" Shane's voice is quiet and sounds far away. I open my eyes to see him grabbing my upper arm. "Head." I shortly grunt out and grab Shane's shoulder to stop myself from falling. He leads me over to the bed and we sit down. I open my eyes to see his eyebrows furrowed in worry.
"You dont remember what happened?" I shake my head meekly. "You were having a bad dream. Thrashing your arms and murmuring things. I tried to wake you up, but you were dead asleep. You fell off the bed and hit your head. I ran over to you and you had stopped talking and moving. You were barely breathing and your pulse was so slow. I freaked out and just started yelling. I swear, I didn't think you were going to wake up. Jesus, don't ever scare me like that again." He finished his story and grabbed my hand rubbing the top gently. His pupils are blown out from the anxiety attack he probably just had. His morning hair is poking all over the place. Soft breaths fill the room. Mine are level, unlike his which are more rapid. I brush my thumb across his cheekbone attempting to sooth him. "I'm ok now, right? Don't worry." He closes his eyes nodding softly. "I guess your right." I smile weakly and take my hand away causing his eyes to open. "Let's eat something. I'm starving." I try to lighten his mood a little. "Don't you need to go to the hospital. You could have a concussion." He rushes out; eyes going wide. I wince while getting up, "I'm fine." He stands up quickly grabbing onto my shoulder steading me. "You're really not." He says begrudgingly.
I turn around walking ahead of him out of the room. "I am, I promise." I hear him huff from behind me making me laugh lightly imagining him crossing his arms like a five year old. My head starts to throb reminding me that I did just hit my head against a hard wood floor. I open the fridge looking over the various foods. "What do you want to eat? I'll cook you something." I feel someone's presence behind me and I turn around to see the creep from my apartment. "Dickwad?" I whisper in disbelief. He smiles scarily and raises his hand which is holding a bloodied knife. I look behind him to see Shane on the ground with blood running out of his mouth. "Shane!" I scream out. My eyes burn from the water pushing on them. I look back at Dickwad who is looking at me curiously. "Aww princess." He says going to reach for my face. I flinch away and go to run past him, but he catches me by the waist. "Nope, you're staying with me a little while longer and then of course I'll kill you." His face is centimeters from mine as I push away from him. I look back over at Shane's limp body. "Shane." I whimper out pathetically. The creep jerks my head towards his head making me look him in the eyes with the flat side of his knife getting blood all over my cheek. I sob out as he runs the point over my cheek causing a mildly deep cut to form. My blood mixes with the blood on the knife. Shane's blood. This thought causes me to sob harder. My body shakes while the man's hands squeeze around me tightly. He grunts before setting the knife on the counter and pulls my head forward by my hair.
My head meets the counter with a thump. My hips collide with the lower cabinets. My short frame is dwarfed by the man's much taller frame. He holds the knife to my throat pushing hard enough to the point that it hurts, but doesn't cause any actual harm. "Close your eyes and take it, princess. It'll be easier." A rough hand slides my shirt up and I scream louder.
All of a sudden everything disappears into blackness. I feel empty as I continue to scream. The high pitch echoes back at me making me put my hands to my ears. My crying is uncontrollable now, numb tears rolling down my cheeks like bullets.
As suddenly as the blackness comes; it disappears and I'm overcome with warmth. Arms wrapped around me and a steady heartbeat next to my ear. "Violet! Calm down! It's just a dream, please stop screaming!" All of my senses come back at the same time and my vocal cords feel raw as I let out one final ear shattering scream. Tears are soaking Shane's shirt as he rocks back and forth with me.
I wrap my legs around his torso shaking violently. "Shhh, calm down. You're going to pass out." He pets my hair calming me down slightly. I gasp out for air and finally calm down. Shane leans away from my shaking self looking at my red and puffy eyes that are now an unnatural shade of green. "You're safe with me. Remember I told you; you'll always be safe with me."
Somehow, as he says those words it seems as if they're just on replay, and neither of us believe them.
