Before we even reached the quinjet we ran into the rest of the group, they were all standing around, most likely waiting for us. "Steve!" Sam sounded excited to see me and he walked over but stopped when he got close to me since I backed away. "Hey Sam." I half smiled. The others stood up and talked with Tony and James as Sam and Clint stayed with Nat and I. We stood around talking for about five minutes before Tony snapped his fingers and walked to the elevator, "Let's get going kids, I don't think T'Challa would be too pleased if we were late!" I nodded and followed him over.
I walked slower than the rest of them so I fell behind. When I reached the door to the hangar the rest of the team was already getting the quinjet ready. All of a sudden there was this pain that shot up through my head. I screamed before I fell to the ground in pain, my arms moving in front of me to steady myself. I whipped my head back and forth as I screamed. I felt someone grab my head and someone else grab my shoulders. "Steve. Steve it is okay. It is okay. You'll be okay." I tried my best to remove their hands but I failed. The pain slowly went away which was good but also a bad thing since I didn't know when it would come back. I finally steadied my breathing and looked up to see Tony in front of me and James to my right while the rest of the team was scattered around me. "Are you okay now?" I nodded my head. "Ye-yea I am fine." I slowly stood up, "Let's get going. We don't want to keep T'Challa waiting."
When I walked into the quinjet I turned around and saw that everyone else was just standing around where I was before, "Guys, please let's get going." I sat down while everyone else got aboard. James and Tony sat on either side of me and hugged me. Clint started up the jet, "Alright nerds, next stop, Wakanda." I laughed a little bit at his "insult" to us. I leaned on Tony's shoulder as I tried my best to drift off. I felt Tony rub my back, "Everything will be ok Steve, trust me." James moved a tad bit closer to me, "We will fix you or we will die trying okay?" He rubbed my shoulder. "Umm humm." I hummed before I finally fell asleep.
*Time Skip*
Someone rubbed my shoulder, "Steve get up." I slowly opened my eyes but quickly shut them as a bright light suddenly filled my vision. I rubbed my eyes before fully opening them. I noticed we were not in the quinjet anymore, looking around I saw that we were in Shuri's lab. Everyone was sitting on the couch looking either at me or at one another. I sat up before looking around at everyone, "How..how did I get here?" Tony laughed, "James carried you in. I would have but you were too heavy. We didn't want to wake you up until we needed to so he just carried you in here." I looked over to him and he waved. I waved back before looking over to Shuri, "So, what is going to happen now?" I questioned. She picked up her tablet and handed it to me. I just stared at it, somethings really didn't make sense to me but I understood most of it.
I looked back at her. "We are going to do some simple scans to see what exactly is going on. Especially the ringing in your head that keeps recurring." I handed the tablet back to her, "And after that?" I asked. She took it out of my hands and gave it to Tony, "After all of that, we might have to do the same thing we did to James which won't take too long to complete. And after all that you can go back to having a normal life. Sound good?" I felt my breath get ripped from my throat as she talked. I wanted to say something but I couldn't get it out. "Rogers did you hear me?" I think Tony noticed that something was wrong and walked over to me, "Steve," He placed his hand on my leg, "Steve are you okay." I quickly stood up and walked out of the room. "Steve!" James yelled as I opened the door.
I managed to find my way out of the castle and onto the courtyard before collapsing onto the walkway. It felt like my throat was caving in along with my lungs. My head was spinning, my legs were heavy and my arms were weak. It felt like someone was digging a dull knife into my chest then my heart. I tried my best to get my breathing back to normal but it didn't work, my mind was too busy spinning to even focus on my lungs. I started to cough heavily and I grabbed my stomach as blood started to stain the ground.
The door opened behind me and I heard footsteps run up behind me. "Steve!" James ran up and crouched down in front of me. "Steve what happened." I wanted to say something but I coughed again which drained my lungs again. He grabbed both of my arms and moved me so I was sitting half on his lap and half on the ground. Everyone was keeping their distance except for Tony and James, they were trying their best to calm me down. I felt James wrap his arms around me as he pulled closer to him, "Everything will be okay. Believe me, you'll be okay. Breath, just listen to me ok?" I nodded my head. Tony stood up and walked over to talk with T'Challa.
After about two minutes they both walked over. "We can't do this today, he is...well...unstable. We don't know what will set him off in one of these panics again." T'Challa stated, "Now let's get him somewhere comfortable, we want him to feel safe." Tony walked over to me and held my hand, "Can you stand or do you need help?" I tried to stand and when I got half way up I nearly fell over. "Okay. Nope, don't try that again." Tony and James both held me up. I wanted to thank them but again, nothing came out, so all I ended up doing was opening my mouth like an idiot. They both held me tightly as they helped me back into the castle. T'Challa led us towards the sleeping areas. One of the Dora Milaje opened the door for us.
Tony and James walked me over to the bed and I sat down. The room had a big window on the far side of the room which lit up the entire room with sunlight, a desk was placed directly across the bed. A few seats around a coffee table in the middle of the room with a TV bringing the lounge area together. "So-" My voice was cut off by my lungs closing up. Everyone turned to look at me, waiting for me to finish what I was going to say. James took a step forward, "Yes?" I placed my hand on my throat and I tried again. Tony turned around to face the team, "How about we give him time. He might be scared or he might be having an anxiety attack." Everyone nodded in agreement. Tony then turned to face me, "Do you want anyone to stay or do you want to be alone? Just point to one of us, two of us or none of us. Your pick."
I looked around at everyone before pointing to James and Tony. "Figures, they are the only two people in this room that know what to do." Sam said. They both turned around and from the look on his face they both gave him a death glare. "Okay, okay. We are going." They all walked out before saying goodbye to me. I waved at them all as they left. I curled up in the middle of the bed like a dog. Tony was first to walk over to me, he placed his hand on my leg and slowly rubbed it. "Everything will be okay Steve. Trust us." James then walked over and sat down beside me as well, "Think you can talk now that everyone is gone?" I felt tears sting the back of my eyes along with my throat closing up as well.
Tony moved that hair out of my face, "If you can't that is fine. Take your time Steve, okay? Now how about you get some rest, the sun is setting and you seem like you need sleep. Both of us will be over there if you need us." They both half hugged me before getting up. Tears fell from my eyes when they left. 'What the hell is wrong with me? What is going on? Why can't say anything, why can't I do anything? GOD! This is infuriating! I want this to END!' I pulled the blanket over me before trying to drift off.
