Midoriya's POV
It was dark, and then it wasn't.
I opened my eyes slowly, grogginess filling my limbs and making me slowly turn my head to the side, coming face to face with Mr Aizawa.
"Hey, kid," the tired teacher grumbled, shifting in his seat so his hand was resting against my shoulder. "How are you feeling?"
I blinked, confused for a second before frowning. "I-I . . . I . . ."
Aizawa sighed, pressing his lips together. A part of him looked deeply sad, under all those tired features, and I found it amazing how he could still teach and be a hero while also looking after 20 students.
"It's okay, Midoriya. Take your time." He said gently, squeezing my shoulder lightly to ground me.
I closed my eyes, swallowing. "I'm . . . sorry."
I heard something shift from beside me, and the bed dipped as a new weight was added.
"What happened isn't your fault, Midoriya," Aizawa soothed, his thumb massaging my shoulder blade. "You did good, problem child."
I snickered at the nickname, allowing myself to smile and open my eyes. Almost immediately, tears flowed down my cheeks, and I found myself sobbing.
"B-But . . . S-Shouto –." I didn't get to finish, my voice turning into a whine as choked cries filled the room.
I felt soft hands on my shoulders and I was pulled upwards into a warm hug, my frame collapsing onto Aizawa's as I clung to his warmth, needing someone, anyone to show that they care.
"He's going to be fine, Midoriya," Aizawa soothed, rubbing his hand down my back. "He's okay, you're both okay."
I released a relieved breath, closing my eyes and burying my head in Aizawa's navy blue scarf, taking note of how he wasn't in his hero uniform.
"T-The rest of the class . . ?" I mumbled, feeling eager to know if my classmates were okay.
"They're all okay. None of them were injured too badly, just a few scratches and bruises." Aizawa answered, still trying to comfort me.
I closed my eyes, tightening my grip around Aizawa's waist. "Kacchan?"
Aizawa sighed before huffing a laugh. "He's okay. He only managed to twist his ankle, and apart from that he was all good."
I nodded, grateful to hear that Kacchan was safe.
We stayed like that for a few more minutes, and I couldn't be any more thankful for Aizawa than I already was. Even though he is just our teacher, he is also the class's parent and guardian in a way, since we can't visit our family as much as we would like to.
"Thank you, Mr Aizawa," I mumbled, smiling. "You're an amazing hero."
Aizawa's grip on me tightened and he inhaled harshly, as if being slapped in the face. "Thanks, kid. You're gonna be a really good hero one day as well."
I huffed quietly, glad to hear those words. Aizawa cautiously loosened his grip on me and gently placed me back on the pillows.
"So, what have I done to myself this time?" I asked, sounding dull and sarcastic.
Aizawa flashed me a grin, and I took that as a win. "Well, as usual, you have broken a bone, but only one this time, thank god," Aizawa said, sitting down on the chair again. "However, you took some damage to your waist, kid, but Recovery Girl came in and helped with that. She couldn't heal you completely since your body wouldn't have been able to handle it."
I nodded. "What about Shouto? Is he okay?"
Aizawa was silent for a moment, and my worry grew.
"He's unconscious, but stable," Aizawa told me, face stern. "He broke his left leg and dislocated his shoulder. That's all I'm going to tell you for now."
I frowned, feeling over confused and tired. "What? Why? I want to know."
Aizawa sighed, running a hand down his face. "He was hurt real bad, Midoriya, and I can't tell you the extent of his injuries until I talk to you about something."
I nodded, desperate for Aizawa to tell me. "Okay, you can talk to me, but please, Aizawa –."
"Let me ask you a few questions, problem child. It's not that hard."
I nodded, quietening down.
"Now," Aizawa sighed, looking saddened as he met his eyes with mine. "I need to know about how you overdose."
I froze, dread filling me as I looked out the window to see a small blue bird resting on a tree branch. "I . . . I don't want to talk about this, Sensei."
Silence filled the room and there was a faint shuffling sound as Aizawa stood, and his footsteps echoed around the room as he walked to the door.
"This conversation isn't over, Midoriya," he informed, opening the door before peeking around the corner and into the hallway. "You can come in now."
Aizawa stepped out of the doorway and held the door open for someone I couldn't see. There was a flash of blonde hair and I was enveloped into a warm embrace almost immediately.
"Hey, Kacchan." I murmured, sinking into the older boy's warmth.
There was a sniffing noise and the grip around me tightened. I squeezed my eyes shut as pain erupted in my waist, but I didn't push Kacchan off, knowing that the teen needed to be comforted more than I did.
"You died," Kacchan's voice trembled, and I held him tighter. "You died and I didn't know if I could save you."
I sighed, moving my hand to the back of his neck and rubbing his skin with my thumb. "It's okay, Kacchan," I whispered, opening my eyes and looking over his shoulder, catching Aizawa's tired gaze. "I'm alive, I'm here."
Kacchan nodded and shifted away from me, sighing as he leaned back on his palms.
"You can't do that to me ever again," he demanded, wiping tears from his eyes in frustration. He sighed and grabbed the sides of my face, forcing me to look him in the eyes. "Once you die you don't come back, Izuku. You just don't."
I lowered my eyes and nodded, staring at his chest, and taking note of how he was wearing an All Might themed hoodie that looked exactly like mine. Before I could question him on it, and successfully change the subject, I was gently pulled forward and was pressed against Kacchan's chest. I felt his lips press against my forehead for a second before he wrapped his arms around me, rocking the both of us back and forth soothingly.
I closed my eyes and winced, opening my mouth and letting out a pained whine as a sting coursed through my body.
There was a new hand on my shoulder and Kacchan and I were pulled apart.
"Be gentle, Bakugou," Aizawa warned, his hand on my shoulder pushing me back into the pillows. "He's still hurt."
Kacchan nodded and I glanced upwards at Aizawa, giving him a thankful smile while sighing and bringing the blanket over my torso, relaxing into the hospital bed.
"Come on, Bakugou," Aizawa said, patting the blonde's shoulder. "It's best to let Midoriya sleep."
Kacchan nodded and pet my head before walking out the door, giving me a smile before disappearing around the corner.
I thought I should give you a calm chapter, so here we are :)
Anime recommendation: Tokyo Ghoul, which is too amazing to explain because I'll probably make it sound boring when it isn't. It's really good, and the plot and characters are amazing. It's a must-watch (and it has a lot of angst and action).
*Inhales* Man, you guys are really going to flip in the next chapter. It's heartwarming and sad at the same time.
Hehehehe :)
