Maven was right. The second Cal finished training. There was a knock at the door. Not that he was surprised there was. Maven had skipped a couple times if he was being honest. He found that training wasn't as important as his family believed it to be. Sure, it helped him control his ability, but to him. He could live a life without it.
"Mavey, again? This is the third time this week! You can't keep skipping. What are you doing here anyways?"
Correction, Maven had skipped at least once every week. He used to come, but eventually stopped coming when he started writing to Thomas. It had been a couple weeks now since they started talking and it was getting closer to Queenstrial. Every second he was waiting for a new letter. He was thinking about what to write next. He couldn't stop thinking about this man. The one who has been running through Maven's mind all day. If it weren't for all his duties as a prince. It was very much likely that Maven would be in his room anticipating the next letter.
"Mavey? Mavey, can you hear me? I'm talking to you. Why have you been skipping?" Cal folded his arms.
"I'm sorry, brother. I had other things I had to finish with. I promise I will come tom-"
There was a knock on the door that interrupted Maven. It must be the letter. Maven took a deep breath and straightened up in his chair.
"Come in."
"I'm sorry to bother you, but this came in the mail." The servant slowly opened the door and handed Maven the letter.
Maven had to force himself to contain his excitement as he watched the servant leave. Once the door shut behind her, he immediately took the letter opener and sliced it open. Just as he was about to pull the letter out, someone took it away. Cal took it away.
"This is why you've been skipping?" Cal held the letter between his fingers.
"Perhaps." Maven muttered.
"Well, in that case. You can get the letter back at the end of the week if you attend the rest of our training."
Maven wanted to protest, but it was no use. He knew Cal was only doing it for his own good. Not that Maven believed it was for his own good and for once. He didn't want to argue or fight back. He knew how stressed Cal was with Queenstrial. The day would soon arrive when Cal would meet his future queen and get married. It was those days when he remembered he was the youngest that he was grateful he never had to go through that process. Funny that fairy tale stories always give the princess and prince a happy ending when in the real world. Nobody could have a happy ending. It just wasn't possible.
Maven sighed heavily as Cal walked away with his letter. He wondered what Thomas had written. In Maven's last letter. He talked about how Queenstrial was coming soon and that he wished he could avoid going. How he'd much rather be somewhere else. Anywhere else. No matter how much freedom being a Silver gave. Being a royal gave. He somehow still felt trapped behind bars. When he heard about all the things Thomas was able to do. Maven couldn't help, but wish to experience all the things he did. He may not be rich or loved by everyone, but Thomas was much more content with his life than Maven could possibly be it seems. Though Thomas admitted to liking Maven. He had yet to give a response back, but Maven was starting to feel something back.
I think I'm falling in love. Maven thought and pushed the thought away as he went back to doing his taxes.
