"What's gonna happen to him?"
Virginia questioned, her voice barely above a whisper as her face remained buried in the crook of Kevin's neck.

With his arms secured around her waist, he pulled her closer, lifting a hand and running it through her hair, massaging her scalp.

She hummed in contentment, wiggling slightly until she felt comfortable on his lap.
Virginia was currently seated on Kevin lap instead of on the car seat, with her arms wrapped around his neck, face buried in the crook of his neck while Kevin's arm was secured around her waist.

As the adrenaline rush from earlier began to wear down, Virginia could feel the fatigue set in and she could barely register anything going on around her. Not when Kevin had fished out for his phone and made a few phone calls. Not when the police had arrived shortly and the entire neighborhood was disturbed with the loud sounds of their siren disrupting her eardrums and giving her a headache. Not when Brandon's limp body had been handcuffed and dragged into the ambulance. And definitely not when the police had approached her wanting to take her statement. She couldn't bring herself to utter more than a few words. Though she had regained mobility in her limbs and other parts of her body, she still felt completely tired. Moving her arms felt like complete torture. She felt they were too heavy and on the verge of dislocating from her shoulder with the least movement. Her muscles still somehow felt completely relaxed as though she had been given some kind of anesthetic.

It was a weird feeling. Being able to move your limbs yet unable to move them at the same time because they felt heavy.
As for her legs, they were still yet to regain their mobility.

And her lungs. Her lungs felt like they were on fire. Breathing in and out had become like a punishment.
Her diaphragm would constrict painfully anytime she breathed.

And currently, as they sat in the police van, waiting for the second ambulance to arrive, she began to fear she would never be able to use her legs again.
She had no idea what drugs Brandon had been injecting her with.
But she knew it was some kind of anaesthetic for sure.
She knew that there were drugs that doctors use to cause temporal paralysis in their patients, causing their muscles to relax for certain surgeries.

And she sure knew that there could be grave side effects if those drugs were overdosed.

The thought alone caused her to let out a whimper, clutching the back of Kevin's shirt tighter.

"Love, are you okay. The ambulance is gonna be here soon" Kevin spoke softly, worry etched on his face as he pushed a few strands of hair behind her ears.

"W...What if I never feel my legs again?" She choked pulling back slightly to peer into his face.

Kevin shook his disapprovingly, bringing a hand down to cup her cheeks, brushing a thumb underneath her red swollen eyes.
"Don't. Don't even think about it Virginia. I'm going to make sure nothing of that sort happens you hear me? I promise you love" he leaned in, placing a kiss to her forehead, pulling her by the waist further.

"Nothing is going to happen to you. Nothing. I promise you okay?"

He got nothing in reply. Instead, her harsh breathing fanned his ear.
"Virginia?" Kevin pulled back to get a look at her face.
Her hand had left his shirt and was now clutching the front of the hideous gown she still wore, her breaths coming out in pants.

"Virginia? What's wrong? Love are you okay?" He panicked.

She looked up at him
"I..can't breathe... I can't breathe K...Kevin" she gasped.

Kevin looked up, alarmed, eyes darting to and fro .
"Where the f*ck are the EMTs! Aren't they supposed to be here by now my God!" He snapped

"Sir please calm....." A police man approached him
