Alya's POV

Suspicious didn't cover it.

The next morning, Adrienette were completely lost in their worlds. Marinette was just staring into space, occasionally sketching something in her sketchbook and giggling for a bit, but then she'd glance over at Adrien and her entire posture would deflate; a frustrated look on her face. Adrien would be typing something into his laptop, blushing, but then he'd glance over to Marinette and suddenly he'd get that same posture too; a tired and frustrated look.

Nino and I carefully observed them from a distance. My glasses sliding down my nose; my Sherlock Holmes hat on; a pen and notebook in my hand- I was ready to do some serious investigating. My dedicated partner sat beside me, looking into the case. Said partner was also munching on popcorn and scrolling through his phone.

Stupid boys.

"NINO!" I scolded him, smacking the bowl out of his greedy hands, "PAY ATTENTION! WE ARE GOING TO FIND OUT WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY SECOND FAVOURITE SHIP! DO I MAKE MYSELF CLEAR?!" I hollered in his ear.

He was shaking with fear. "Yes, ma'am."

"Good. Now, I'll go talk with Mari, you with Adrien. INTERROGATE HIM, SUBTLY!"

"Uh, how?"

I sighed.

After a very long and frustrating course on the art of detectiveness (yes, I'm fully aware that isn't a word) Nino was finally ready. I like to think my winning personality encouraged him. Or maybe it was my scariness.

Either way, he headed off towards Adrien, and I investigated Marinette.

As soon as she saw me coming, she snapped her sketchbook shut and blushed. "Oh hi, Alya! How's it going?"
*

"Don't give me that crap, Mari. Why have you been blushing, sketching, and giggling on repeat?"

Welp, so much for subtle.

She turned a deep shade of red. "What?! Uh... um... I have n-no idea what y-you're talking ab-bout! Yeah!"

I facepalmed. "Mari, you can't hide these things from me. I'm your best friend! You can tell me anything!"

She hesitated. "Alright, come on." Marinette patted the space on the sofa next to her. I mentally pat myself on the back and fell dramatically on the sofa. I think I got crumbs in my eyes, but at least it got a giggle out of her.

"Now c'mon girl! Spill!"

She huffed. "Fine. So, you know how I told you about how Adrien told me about 'the girl he loves' in his car?"
