She told me my hair is bushy.
He told him his language sounds barbaric.
My aunt got rejected from her job application
Although she is the perfect candidate.

Because we are black.

My ancestors died fighting on this soil
All because we wanted to be equal.
Yet today we are still seen as worthless.
Our generation is still fighting the same fight.

They take, take, take
And claim it all as theirs.
If we want a chance to prove ourselves
We have to fit in to please them.

The world never loved you
If you are enriched with melanin
If your ancestors were born on African soil.
They associate you with the bad and the worst.

"These bloody thugs..."
"You are all barbarians!"
"You aren't like the others."
"They always do these crimes."

They strip away our dignity
And force us to be cool with it.
But we all know that we are worth more.
All they are willing to give is the minimum.

For all those who died
Trying to live their lives
Your life matters
We will continue to fight
