"Parker, shut up," Grace laughed as she pulled into the parking lot of the jewelry store. It was the day before her and Taylor's first anniversary and she wanted to pick out an engagement ring while she knew Taylor was jet lagged, although she wasn't sure when she would give it to the blonde.
"It's seven in the morning, Grace. The sun hasn't even come up yet, for god's sake," the man groaned, stepping out of Grace's car.
"I need you to pretend to be my partner picking out an engagement ring for me so that no one finds out it's for Taylor. You love Taylor so please, just do me this favour."
"Fine," the guard gave in, opening the door to the shop. Grace had specifically picked it because they opened super early.
"Hi," one of the workers greeted them, "How are you?"
"Great, thank you," Grace smiled, "How are you?"
There was a moment of idle chatter as they located the rings, Grace already overwhelmed by all the choices before the worker could keep up.
"You see any you like?" Parker asked, looking down at them.
"So many," Grace said nervously, "I have no idea where to start."
"Engagement ring?" The woman, who they had found out to be Anna by her name tag, inquired.
"Yeah," Grace agreed while nodding. She bit down on her lip as she looked at all the options in the glass case.
"What's your budget?"
Grace looked at Parker to try and put on a show, waiting for him to answer, "Price is no issue."
"That's dangerous to say," Anna chuckled, "Higher end are over to the right and our cheaper selection is on the left. All of our rings are around a size K, or 4 to 6, judging by your accents you might understand that better, but we can resize them quite easily."
"That's her ring size," Grace replied, "Oh shit."
"I figured you were buying for someone else, don't worry about it. Normally when the guy brings the fiancé in here, she's all over every single ring."
Grace smiled nervously, "We're engaged already but we haven't done rings. She's quite elegant but I think she'd love just about anything which makes it a billion times harder."
Anna nodded, "Gold or silver band? That will help narrow it down by about half."
"Park? You think she'd like gold, right?"
"It's my goal in life to stay single, I have no idea."
"Yeah, he's no help," the brunette chuckled, looking back to the case, "I think gold."
"Okay, that's some of the battle."
"Sorry, I've never done this before," Grace apologized to the sales lady. She felt like she was being such a pain to the poor woman, who couldn't have been more than forty.
"Oh please," Anna waved her hand at her, "You're much better at this than half the people who come in here. I have no issue helping."
"Thank you."
"Of course. Now, do you think she would want a bigger stone or a smaller one? You said money was no issue, hmm? You may be more interested in the one's over here because they have bigger diamonds, cleaner cuts."
"Honestly, I think I just need to stare at them for a while until I see the one. As much as appreciate you trying to help me out, I've got a feeling I'll know it when I see it."
"Absolutely, just wave me over if you want to take a closer look at anything."
Grace nodded, crossing her arms over her chest as she stared down at the glass case. There were hundreds of rings in there, too many options.
