Beth's POV

My eyes open and I yawn. It's the start of a new day. As I sit up, my heart pangs with the thought of my mother. I miss her so much. She used to always be there for me. No matter what. And now she's gone. Far away. And I'm here. I bite my lip and get out of bed. I pull on some comfortable clothing and hurry out of my room. I have somewhere to be after all. I walk downstairs and see Henry. "Hiya Henry!" I exclaim. "Beth!" he says. I give him a small hug and flash a smile at him.

"You ready for today?" I ask. He nods enthusiastically. "Maybe today you'll finally beat me." He rolls his eyes and punches me in the arm.

"Stop. I've been practising a lot. I'll easily defeat you."

"Sure." He sighs and I smirk. I like Henry. He's a cool kid. Like the younger brother I never had. I love my mother but I was always lonely as I child. It's nice to finally get to spend time with someone. I hear someone coming down the stairs.

We both turn around to see Hook smiling at us. "You kids ready?" he asks. We both nod and we walk out towards the garden. I think more about my mother and the person who destroyed her life. And ruined mine as a result. I glance at Hook as he grabs the wooden swords we've been using. He's been teaching us how to sword fight.

"Who wants to go first?" he asks.

"We're going to go against each other first. I want to prove to Henry for once and for all that I'm better" I brag playfully. Henry rolls his eyes. "No, I'm going to beat you. I'm the grandson of Prince Charming after all. Sword fighting runs in our blood."

I swing the sword at him but he meets it with his sword. I grunt as I try to hit him again. We go back and forth for a bit until I manage to make the sword fly out of his hand. I smile widely and Henry frowns. I push him to the ground and point the sword where his heart is. I laugh excitedly. "I won! I beat you again!" I celebrate. I turn around to see Hook smiling.

"Well done, lass." he tells me. I was about to turn back to face Henry when something touches my back. Henry pushes me to the floor. 7

"Never take your eyes off the person you're facing. A tip for next time." I gasp out in surprise. I have to admit I'm impressed. Hook laughs as I turn onto my back. Henry is above me, smirking. He offers me his hand and I accept it. "I let you win." I said.

"Sure."

"I'm going to go tell my Mom." he says, running off. I smile as I see him approach the castle. As I said, he's a cool kid. I'm quite fond of him. "You did good." I hear Hook say. I turn around to face him.

"I lost." I said.

"Still, you are a lot better then when we started. You have the skill to be a great fighter." I smile in surprise.

"Thanks, I guess." He nods.

"Henry has got a lot better too." I say.

"Yes, he has. You like him?" he asks.

"Of course. He's quite easy to like. He's kind of become the little brother I never had. I like his company. I was lonely as I child. It was just me and my mother and I loved her but she worked a lot. So, a lot of the time I was all by myself" I say. I don't know why I'm telling him this. It all just rushes out. "What happened to your father?" he asks. I look away and close my eyes.

"He left my mother before I was even born."

"I'm sorry."

Killian's POV

"I know how you feel, Beth. My father sold me into servitude when I was young." She gasps. "That's......so........sad." She studies me for a second, biting her lip.
