In which I finally get Jake a job taking inventory at the bookstore I work at. After watching him work, Laritzia is impressed and offers Jake and I proposal for a business.

A midnight inventory business.

I love my boss!

I sipped at my coffee as I watched Jake absolutely power through the books on the shelves of the bookstore. The man-well vampire- was a counting maniac. I was actually super impressed with myself that I had managed to get him the job.

While at work I had listened to Laritzia complain that her night inventory people had been off on all their counts and so her stock inventory numbers was out of whack and she had to redo it. She had grumbled that she didn't want to spend the next four nights recounting stock that should have been counted properly in the first place, how she wished she had someone she could pay to do it for her that would do it right and it was like a damn lightbulb went off in my head.

I had mentioned I had a friend who was looking for a job who was ridiculously good with numbers. I mean using it to try and kill unwanted vampires aside, the counting enthrallment had to be a plus when it came to now days, right? I mean humans loved our numbers and we needed them for everything so it made sense that, with the aspect of night jobs, a vampire could seamlessly fall into the world of night inventory without a beat. As long as they had someone to watch them to ensure they didn't get fried if they got too enthralled.

I took another drink of coffee, that was my job for the night. After I had suggested Jake to Laritzia for doing inventory she agreed to allow him to do it as long as I watched him. Which was good for me because it showed Laritzia that I was still responsible and then I was there to ensure Jake didn't get too enthralled that he would be out before it got light out. I was fond of my little himbo vamp baby and I really didn't want to have him get burned to a crisp.

Especially before we had a chance to make it to bone town.

I nearly choked on my coffee at the thought my libido slammed into me like a well placed, magnificent bitch slap from the one and only Thor Bjornsson. I wiped at the dribbled coffee on my chin that had escaped my mouth and scowled as I mentally beat my libido with the biggest stick I could think of. I was starting to think that my libido wasn't learning to back off but was almost getting off on the beatings. Like 'Spank me Sammi! I've been bad!'

That was definitely not a pleasant thought. I needed to be able to shove my libido off of me to keep the nasty, dirty thoughts out of my head and mentally beating my libido was almost cathartic for me. It gave me something to think about other than wanting to lick every inch of Jake's muscles. Which was an urge that was getting harder to ignore because Jake seemed to be well on his way to wanting to get it on with me. But he wasn't the greatest at expressing that, if his adorable and rather busy bumbles attempts at conversations regarding physical matters were anything to go by.

I shook my head slightly and eyed Jake as he reached up to take a stack of books from the top of the bookshelf. He was doing well. He was done counting all the back stock and was now onto the front stock and the four night job Maritzia had been expecting was looking to be a single one. I was highly impressed and overwhelmingly proud of Jake. Despite his himbo tendencies, he was an absolute vampire genius with numbers. Although I didn't know what the numerical capabilities of the general vampire population was to compare. I was going to stick with genius for the moment because compared to me, he was.

The front door opened and I glanced over with a frown, no one was supposed to be in the shop besides me and Jake. I relaxed when I saw Laritzia as she locked up the door behind her. I took another glance at Jake as he rapidly set books back on the shelf before grabbing his notebook. He remembered the numbers with stunning clarity but I had given him the notebook to give Laritzia something to read over when we were done. It seemed much less odd than to have some blond surfer dude rattle off numbers at her rapid fire from the top of his gorgeous head.

"How is it going?" Laritzia's accent was heavier but she looked tired so I could only imagine that she had woken up like ten minutes ago and decided to come in to check things out. She was like that but I didn't blame her. The bookstore was her baby and she wanted the best for it.

"We are all done the back stock and Jake is nearly done half of the front." I took a sip of coffee as Laritzia practically gaped.

She shook her head rapidly before holding up a finger. "No. Not possible!" She wagged her finger at me and I smiled.

"Jake is a genius with numbers. He flew through the back stock like it was easy." I followed her as she marched towrds Jake who was grabbing another stack of books, his eyebrows furrowed slightly as he rapidly mouthed numbers.

"I wish to see the numbers." She nearly barked it out and Jake ignored her as he rapidly started to place the books back onto the shelf, mouthing the numbers as he did so.

I reached around him and grabbed his notebook from the shelf. "He gets super into counting when he gets started. Here." I passed the book over to her and Laritzia snagged it from me and hurried back off to the office. I followed her, curious as to what she was doing. She yanked open her office door and sat down at her desk before grabbing the previous inventory list and opening Jake's notebook. I took another drink of my coffee as she scanned both pages, looking through the numbers.

After a few moments she let out a heavy breath and rubbed at her face. "His numbers are exact. Much more like what I expected when I paid the inventory business. Crooks they were. Lazy!" She shoved their pages away from her before she lifted the notebook. "Your boyfriend is a gem, Sam!" She waved the book and my cheeks went red.

"He's not my boyfriend." I muttered it out and she gave me a pointed look that I tried to ignore. We weren't dating. I was just protecting his identity as a vampire and he was living with me and I wanted to climb him like a goddamn tree. Thoughts of broken pelvises were all gone and all I wanted to do was have surfer vamp ride me like one of his waves.

"I want to hire him!" Laritzia slapping her hand on her desk jolted me out of my dirty thoughts and my cheeks went even more red. "I have idea. With this talent I can hire Jake for an inventory business. I have lots of businesses that need inventory outside of open hours. Would you ask him? I will run through logistics but we would have lots of customers happy for this type of exactness." She waved the notebook in the air with a grin. "You get me a dozen of people like your boyfriend and I will be a very happy woman. I give you big raise! Partners in business. You good bet, Sam. Your boyfriend is even better bet!" She looked so happy and I was so floored I couldn't even think.

"He's not my boyfriend." I nearly stammered it out and she waved me off.

"That boy should be." At the slight scolding I blinked rapidly as she grinned at me.

"A midnight inventory business..." I blinked at her and she nodded happily.

"We start with my businesses, then expand. You find me more like him. We do very well with it. Good bet." She looked so confident and secure with it that I could do nothing but continue to blink.

Well...

It was official.

I fucking loved my boss.
