Chapter 8: Eighteenth Birthday

Ok so this chapter is titled "Eighteenth Birthday" because it's from Jasmine's point of view, and she thinks it's an eighteenth birthday, which it kind of is, but it's mostly a party to celebrate his induction to becoming Alpha.

Jasmine's POV

The week had gone by and it was finally the night of Ryder's eighteenth birthday party. Suddenly I was really nervous. I'm going to be meeting his whole family...his huge family. I don't even know why I'm nervous, it's not like we're dating and I'm meeting his parents. But you want your friends parents to like you, right? And depending on if his family likes me, depends on how much time I could spend with Ryder...right? I know Ryder's not the type to not do what he wants because someone doesn't agree, but he loves his parents and if they don't like me...I'm getting ahead of myself.

I went shopping yesterday with Lauren to buy a dress. I bought a simple black dress that showed off the few, in my opinion, curves I had but it's modest enough to wear to his family event. I want to look good...for myself...not him. Ok well both. I was done doing my hair, which was lightly curled, and my makeup and now I was just waiting for Lauren to pick me up. I may or may not have gotten ready super early to give myself something to do and calm my nerves. I heard my phone go off and read the text from Lauren telling me she was outside.

"Hey don't be nervous. We're gonna have a good time." She spoke with a smile as soon as I got inside the car.

"How do you know I'm nervous?" I asked.

"You're doing that thing you do where you bite your lip and play with your hair."

"Oh god, you've noticed?"

"Yeah but it's cute. You're fine."

I nodded, "You look pretty." I admired her dress.

She smiled, "Thanks you look hot."

I rolled my eyes, "No I-"

"Hey don't argue, yes you do. Ryder will think so too." She winked.

My heart fell. "Um why would I care what Ryder thinks?"

She shrugged, "I don't know maybe because you like him." She said smirking.

I shook my head, "No I d-," I sighed, "Ok I do. It happened so fast, I don't know. You probably think I'm weird for liking a guy I've known for like five days now." I said looking down.

"No I understand. It's like you can't help but get nervous around him and he makes you blush, and you constantly want to be around him?"
I nodded, thankful she understood.
"That's how I was with Brad when I figured out we were mat-made to be together. And it's how I still am, it never goes away, you just get more comfortable with it. Sounds cheesy, I know."

"No it sounds cute. But it's ok for you to feel these things, you guys are like the perfect couple. Ryder and I aren't made for each other. He doesn't even like me."

She laughed, "Jasmine. He likes you. I can't believe you didn't know that."
My head shot up at that. "How-how do you know that?"

"I know Ryder. We all know him. And we know him well enough to know how the way he is around you, he's not like that around anyone else. He talks about you a lot too. He likes you. Trust me."
I blushed and nodded. I trust Lauren, I really do. But guys like Ryder don't like girls like me.

"Hey! You're doubting me, I can feel it. Just trust me on this. If he makes a move, let it happen. Don't be scared. Ok we should go before we're late."
I nodded and thanked her before we were off. What if Ryder really did like me? I smiled at the thought.
