Brutus smiled at the man in the room. He put the vacuum away, by placing it in a corner, and ignored the sound of Bellatrix banging on the sides of it, demanding to be let out. "So, who are you?" He asked. It was easy to see that he was mortal, simply by judging by his skin colour. And the fact that he most definitely didn't look dead.
"I'm Roman." Was the answer that Brutus received, and he nodded at it. Roman, what an interesting name. "Did my Lord let you sleep here?" He asked, keeping the smile on his face. He walked over to Roman, thankful that Bellatrix closed the curtains.
Now it was only the lit chandelier in the ceiling that provided light, but Brutus could easily see Roman. Honestly, he looked like Virgil's type.
Roman looked puzzled by the question. "Why does everyone keep calling Virgil "Lord"? Bellatrix did too." He said, and Brutus raised an eyebrow. Hadn't Virgil informed him?
He chuckled. "You might want to sit down for the explanation. Come with me, I'll show you my favourite place in this mansion."
Roman hesitantly nodded, and followed Brutus when he began to walk through the mansion, which had portraits displayed on the walls. Some were of Virgil throughout the times, while others were of lovers or adoptive children.
There were things displayed in glass cabinets which were placed along the walls, and Brutus would sometimes stop to allow Roman to get a good look at something he seemed interesting.
Most of the time, Brutus could provide information about the object of his curiousity.
Soon, they reached the room that Brutus loved. It was made purely for comfort, and had a fireplace, with two soft leather chairs in front of it. In between the two chairs, a coffee table was placed. There was a couch in the corner, and it was also made of the same dark leather. The ceiling was painted to look like the sky, with the moon in the middle.
The walls were decorated with a tapestry with Virgil's family's crest, which was of a raven and a wolf, both in blue colours, on a black background, with a purple star on it.
Brutus walked over, and placed himself in one of the leather chairs. With a flick or his wrist, and a small bit of magic, he lighted the fire in the fireplace.
He cast a glance at Roman, to see him staring into the green flames in amazement. Brutus chuckled, finding his reaction amusing. "Take a seat if you'd like, young one."
Roman nodded, and sat down in the other leather chair. Brutus thought for a moment, and then pulled out a tobacco pipe. "Would you mind if I took a smoke?" He asked, knowing that it could affect Roman.
Roman thought about it for a moment, and then shook his head. "No, it's fine." Brutus nodded, and snapped his fingers, filling the bowl of the pipe with tobacco, and lighting it, with the use of a little magic.
He took a draw, and let a content sigh escape him as the smoke came out of his mouth. "I needed that. Now, you wanted an explanation on why I call Virgilius my Lord?" Roman nodded, leaning forwards a bit.
Brutus smiled at him. "This'll require a long explanation, and we can't start with just Virgilius. We have to start with the society of vampires." Roman seemed slightly surprised at learning that vampires had a society. Brutus chuckled. Virgil really hadn't told him much, had he?
"Well, we have to start out with Lords and Ladies. When a human is turned by a regular vampire, they just become a normal vampire. But when they are turned by a Lord or Lady, there is a one in a thousand chance that they become a Lord or Lady too. Lords and Ladies have certain powers and easily earn respect from other vampires, due to their extra powers.
"While a regular vampires best weapon is their eyes, Lords and Ladies are for more powerful. Their voice can make people blindly follow them, and their touch can be addicting, and force anybody to want more. The only ones not affected of these things are other Lords or Ladies, or Nobility as they are also called.
"Nobility usually get other vampires to follow them, and do their dirty work, such as hunting, or making deals. Killing off other Nobles are also something that has happened before.
"When a vampire chooses, or is forced, to follow a Noble, they create a loyal bond with the Noble. If the bond is destroyed, which happens of the Noble dies, then the vampire is free once more. But if not, then we are submissive to the Noble we follow, and follow their orders.
"Virgilius was bitten by a Lord, who found him attractive, and wanted him to join his following. But my Lord was a Lord too, and ended up battling the other Lord. He won, and earned a loyal following of vampires, one of them is me. Most of the originals have sadly perished, but some of us remain." Brutus explained, sometimes pausing to take another draw from his pipe.
He looked over to see Roman looking amazed, and interested. He smiled at him. "Is there something you wish to know, young one?" Roman nodded. "How old are you exactly?" He asked, a bit hesitantly.
Brutus chuckled. "I have lived through 2217 winters, young one." He told Roman, making him gape slightly. "Now now, gaping does not look very good on you, so I would suggest you close your mouth." Brutus said, keeping his tone kind. Roman closed his mouth as he was instructed to do.
Brutus kept on smiling at Roman. "Now, I believe it is your turn to entertain me. What is your story, young one?" Roman swallowed at that question, turning nervous. "I-I'm sure it isn't very interesting to someone like you..." He mentioned. Brutus shook his head. "No no, every story is interesting. I want to hear yours, now."
Roman thought about it for a moment, and then nodded slightly. "Sure, I'll tell you." He took a deep breath, while Brutus took yet another draw from his pipe.
"I grew up in a pretty regular household, I guess. I have a twin brother, and a younger sister. My parents were loving and kind, and I love them very much. As we got older, my brother and I got distant, and he got... Weird, more unhinged. I wasn't very comfortable with being around him anymore. When I was twelve, and my sister was eleven, we were having a good time out in the backyard, and it was getting late. Before we knew it, it was night, and we were about to head back inside when a group of vampires appeared.
"I tried to defend myself and Beatrice, but they pushed me away, while they took Beatrice away. I never saw her again after that... I wanted to become a vampire hunter after that, and while training, I met my two best friends, Patton and Logan. Currently, they're engaged.
"Patton comes from a long line of vampire hunters, and Logan wanted to become one to be closer to Patton, and to figure out the secret behind undeath.
"When I was nineteen my brother ran away from home, leaving behind a note, saying the he had found a lover, that he called J. I have heard from him three times after that. All letters.
"I foolishly tried to hunt Virgil, but he let me live. I lost my wallet that night, and he brought it to my house. We've become friends, I think..." Brutus smiled when Roman was done telling his story. "I think that was a very interesting life story. And who knows, maybe you'll meet your siblings again someday." He had a certain glint in his eyes when he spoke. He had froze in place when Roman had said his sister's name, and for a reason.
Oh, the surprise he might face when he meets Lady Beatrice.
