Warning: Cursing, maybe a lot, maybe just one word. I'm writing this warning while I'm not done writing the chapter yet
Virgil looked over at Roman, a bit concerned, since he seemed guilty about something. The darker male, that had been glaring at Virgil while they walked back to the car, had placed himself as far away from Virgil as he could, and the tall male had placed himself beside him, seemingly trying to calm him down.
All three of his pets stayed away from them, after Chie had been swatted away by the dark male, and walked back over to place herself in Roman's lap, looking offended. Both of the dragons had stayed big, but Virgil didn't mind, since there was still space in the car, and they weren't even at half their full size yet. After Chie's dismissal, they had decided to ignore the two males too, and focus on Virgil and Roman.
"What happened out there?" Virgil asked, to which Roman sighed, and ran a hand through his hair. He seemed a bit ashamed of himself, for some reason. "Logan and I had an argument..." He mumbled, to which Virgil nodded. "About me, I suppose?" He said, to which Roman perked up. "How did you..?" He asked, to which Virgil just shrugged.
"He has been glaring at me for some time now. I suppose it's because of my... condition." He answered, and cast a glance at his hand, as if it was foreign to him, and he had to make sure it wasn't weird. He looked back at Roman, who seemed concerned now. "Virgil, are you alright?" Roman asked, and when Virgil was about to reply, probably with a small white lie, Logan said something before him.
"Roman, why are you even concerned for him? He's a monster." He said, to which Virgil couldn't help but chuckle darkly. He had faced such insults many, many times before, and they had already gotten old by the 500s. Roman narrowed his eyes, and furrowed his eyebrows, looking a bit angry now.
Virgil just looked over at Logan, amused. "Really? That's the best you can come up with?" He said, with another chuckle, that left all but him and Brutus confused. Virgil shook his head slightly, when Logan stayed silent, and leaned back into his seat. "I have said much worse things to myself during depressive episodes." He said, not caring if everyone heard. It was just the truth, after all.
Even Logan seemed surprised, amusing Virgil even further. He had lived for too long to care much about his mental health, since he knew it was impossible to fix him with how much he had seen and gone through throughout the last thousand years, even if he visited the world's best therapist weekly.
Bruts used the moment of silence, to ask where he should drive to. Patton gave him his and Logan's address, and Brutus nodded, knowing the street, and the way there, well. Virgil decided to not say much more, so most of the ride was spent with Roman looking worried, Logan glaring at either Brutus or him, and Patton trying to get his fiancé to stop glaring at the vampires.
But, the almost silence was finally broken, when Logan began to mumble insults under his breath. They were most likely directed towards Virgil, since most of them had something to do with being pale. He honestly hadn't expected one of Roman's friends to be so offensive, since he was sure Roman had better standard for friends. But maybe he was wrong, or maybe Logan just really hated vampires.
Virgil just stayed silent, and listened, a bit amused, until he heard Logan mutter, "son of a bitch". Virgil eyes instantly turned hard, and unforgiving, while the monster inside of him watched eagerly, hoping for just a tiny speck of anger, so it could take over. "You can call me anything, but do not, under any circumstances, insult my family." He warned, his voice dangerously calm, for the situation.
Logan however, didn't seem to notice that hidden threat in Virgil's voice, and decided to test his boundaries. "Really? Because I'm sure they were some assholes, for raising a vampire." As soon as Virgil had comprehended those words, a low, almost animalistic growl escaped from his throat, and his eyes glowed slightly. Some of his many tattoos, got a faint glow too, though it wasn't as strong as the one in his eyes.
Logan visibly paled, and pressed himself against to car door, trying to get even further away from Virgil. "I said, don't insult my family." Virgil growled, trying his best to calm himself down again. His family was his soft spot, all of it. Maybe except for his father, but he had always been distant. Tough love was the trend back then.
Virgil knew that taking deep breaths wouldn't help at all, and didn't know what to do to calm down properly, before the beast got hungry for power, and tried to take more control. But thankfully, Roman grabbed his hand, and gave it a tight, and firm, squeeze.
Virgil blinked, and the glow faded away. Roman somehow just... calmed him, in a way. It was interesting to Virgil, but it had been like that with many others he cared about, so maybe Roman wasn't that different from them, in all but personality.
Virgil gave him a small, thankful smile for it, happy that he decided to try and help, since he didn't know what would have happened if the beast had managed to take over, without Virgil's permission.
"What was that?" Roman asked, and if he had been concerned before, then he certainly was now. Virgil sighed softly. "It's a complicated question, with an even more complicated answer, that you're not going to recieve." He decided to say, not wanting to reveal to Roman, the reason why he was like that.
Virgil always hated his failures, and even more, telling other people about them. The only ones who knew were Adolpha, and Brutus, and he had vowed to never tell anyone else. So he wouldn't.
