Orangepaw stalked forward, putting one paw in front of the other silently. A mouse was eating a beech nut near a tree, oblivious to Orangepaw being right there. Orangepaw shifted his weight to pounce on the mouse, but froze in place. Something had caught his attention, and he waited, staying perfectly still, right where he was.

He was aware of his mentor, Purestar, watching him, waiting for him to make the kill, but he stayed completely still. Then a rabbit hopped around the tree, close to the mouse. This is what Orangepaw had been waiting for.

Orangepaw leaped forward, swiftly killing the mouse before leaping towards the rabbit that had started to run away, but Orangepaw was just a little too fast for it. His claws hooked onto the rabbit's back, allowing him to pull it back towards him and swiftly bite it's neck, killing it.

Purestar padded out of her hiding place. "Well done!" She meowed. Orangepaw beamed from the praise. "I smelled and heard the rabbit so I waited for it to get close enough to the mouse to get both of them. The smell of the mouse masked my own scent so the rabbit couldn't smell me." Orangepaw explained.

Purestar flicked her tail over Orangepaw's ears. "Let's get the fresh kill back to camp. I'm sure that the elders would enjoy your catch." Purestar meowed. Orangepaw purred and picked up the mouse by the tail and the rabbit by the ears.

The two of them walked back to camp, with Orangepaw feeling light as thistledown. He knew that with every passing day he was closer to becoming a warrior and that it wouldn't be long until he finally became a warrior.

Although most of his den mates weren't as close to being a warrior as he is. Redpaw was the only one who would have a chance of becoming a warrior at the same time as he does. At least one of them will be right there along with me when becoming a warrior. Orangepaw thought as they padded back to the camp.

Purestar dug up the fresh kill that she had caught on the way back. A blackbird and a large rabbit. "Orangepaw you've been doing well in both hunting and fighting." Purestar praised as she dug up the fresh kill. "I'm glad that you are an apprentice of Thunderclan."

Orangepaw felt proud to hear his leader's praise. It made him want to work even harder to become the best warrior that he could be. He wanted to be able to catch Purestar's attention even after he became a warrior.

Purestar picked up the fresh kill and started passing towards the camp. Orangepaw quickly followed her, thoughts buzzing through his mind. He wanted to talk to the other apprentices as soon as he got back to camp, but Purestar might have another task for him, and if she did then he would be ready to complete that task.

When they got back to camp Orangepaw and Purestar padded over to the fresh kill pile to deposit their catch. Purestar dropped hers on the pile before turning to Orangepaw. "You're going on the midnight patrol Orangepaw, so get some rest until then." Purestar meowed.

Delighted to be able to speak to the other apprentices right away, Orangepaw quickly dropped his fresh kill on the pile before walking over to Bluepaw, Greenpaw, Pinkpaw, and Redpaw who were talking outside of the apprentices den. "Hey guys!" Orangepaw meowed to the other apprentices.

"Hey Orangepaw! How was your hunt with Purestar?" Greenpaw asked. Orangepaw sat beside Bluepaw, curling his tail over his paws. "It was great. I don't think that it will be long now until Purestar gives me my warrior assessment." Orangepaw meowed. "You mean our warrior assessment?" Redpaw corrected.

Orangepaw purred in amusement. "Yes I mean our warrior assessment." Orangepaw mewed. Bluepaw, Greenpaw, and Pinkpaw were all too young to have their warrior ceremony in the next two or three moons, but Orangepaw and Redpaw were both next in line to become warriors.

"You should eat something you know." Orangepaw looked over his shoulder to see Yellowheart had padded up to them. "You still eaten anything and your going to need your energy for when you go on the midnight patrol." Yellowheart meowed.

Orangepaw couldn't help but smile at him. Yellowheart has been made a warrior a little less than a moon before Orangepaw had become an apprentice, but Purestar thought that he would be the perfect cat to train Redpaw.

Yellowheart had ended up becoming close with all of the apprentices rather quickly, realizing just how close the group of apprentices were and wanting to get closer to them. Yellowheart, always took every opportunity to train Redpaw with either Bluepaw, Greenpaw, Pinkpaw, or Orangepaw, which made the apprentices like him even more.

At that moment Navypool and Browntail padded up to the apprentices, each with two mice hanging by their tails in their jaws. The two of them put the fresh kill down in front of the apprentices and looked up at them.

"Here's something for each of you. I know that you already ate Pinkpaw." Navypool meowed. Orangepaw reached forward and picked up a mouse and placed the mouse down in front of his paws and settled down to eat it.

"Thanks Navypool." Orangepaw meowed. Navypool purred at Orangepaw. "You're welcome. Pinkpaw, don't forget that we have battle training soon." Navypoool meowed. Pinkpaw nodded. "I can remember, don't worry." Pinkpaw mewed.

Browntail turned to Greenpaw, a serious yet soft look on his face. "And don't you forget that we are going to be doing some battle training too, Greenpaw." Browntail meowed. Greenpaw smirked at Browntail. "You don't have to remind me. I can remember on my own." Greenpaw meowed.

Browntail smirked back at Greenpaw before turning around and padding away from the apprentices, Navypool following suit. Browntail and Navypool had worked their way into the group as well.

Pinkpaw was the one that stood out in the group. She had never wanted to be a warrior. She had originally wanted to be a medicine cat, but something had happened and Pinkpaw had realized that her path in life did not take her down the path of a medicine cat.

Pinkpaw doesn't like fighting but she will fight if she has to. She liked helping her clan mates and wanted to be able to help rather than harm. Nobody really knew what made Pinkpaw change her mind and decide to be a warrior instead, but something made Pinkpaw change her mind.

"So how has training been going? Any of you feel like you're making any progress?" Orangepaw asked before biting into his fresh kill. Bluepaw immediately piped up. "I feel like I'm doing a great job with my training! I'll be a great warrior that Thunderclan can be proud of!" Bluepaw announced, puffing out his chest.

Greenpaw purred in amusement. "We all will be warriors that Thunderclan can be proud of Bluepaw, you won't be the only one." Pinkpaw purred in amusement at the exchange between Greenpaw and Bluepaw. "You two really have something special don't you?" Pinkpaw mewed.

Bluepaw and Greenpaw has always been especially close out of all of the apprentices, almost never being seen apart unless they were training separately. Some cats even believed that what they had could be even more than just a friendship.

"It never fails. Every time that I see you two together while another apprentice is there someone always brings up your bond." Yellowheart purred. Bluepaw and Greenpaw exchanged a glance before they both went back to eating their fresh kill.

"Redpaw, you and I are going on the midnight patrol so you should get some rest." Yellowheart meowed. Redpaw nodded and settled down to eat the fresh kill. Orangepaw did the same and went back to eating his fresh kill, quickly finishing it and padding into the apprentices den to get some rest, Redpaw following close behind him.

The two of them both curled up in their moss nests and soon drifted off to sleep.

.............

Orangepaw jerked awake to here yowling within the camp. Redpaw was woken up by the sound too and the two of them rushed out into the camp. Freckleshine, Eagleclaw, Evergreenfur and Bluepaw were all standing underneath Highledge while the rest of the clan surrounded them, yowling angrily.

Orangepaw and Redpaw padded up to the crowd, curious as to what was happening. Orangepaw quickly spotted Greenpaw and Pinkpaw and padded up to them, Redpaw following him. "What's going on?" Orangepaw asked.

Greenpaw looked just as angry as the rest of his clan mates, huffing as he turned to Orangepaw. Pinkpaw just looked worried. "I'll tell you what happened!" Greenpaw practically snarled. "Shadowclan crosses the border and stole prey from us!"
