ONE
"NICE TO MEET YOU"

-

"Is that everything?"

Isabelle and her mother stood in her new bedroom, looking around at the new decorations.

She shrugged, "I suppose so" she muttered, looking at the floor.

"It's not that bad here, remember, I spent my whole childhood here!" her mom said optimistically.

"But it's so boring here, and my friends aren't here" she sighed.

"It's not that boring, and I'm sure you'll make some friends at school"

Isabelle shrugged, "It's boring from what I've seen" she said, sitting down on her bed and looking around at the photos stuck around her room of her and her friends.

"I understand that you're upset about moving, but you need to see it as a good thing"

Isabelle did agree with her mother on that note. In her old hometown, she had been bullied. Although there was a lot of good memories attached to it, there were many more sad ones.

She sighed, "I'll try my best to enjoy it here" she said, giving her mother a smile.

There was a knock at the door, and the two looked at each other, unsure of who it could be.

They went downstairs and opened the door, and her mother started to smile.

"Elizabeth Thomas, is that you?" she said, and the woman in front of her gasped, "Rachel! How long has it been? It must have been almost fourteen years!"

Isabelle stood to the side, looking at the reunion between the two women.

"You must be Isabelle, you won't remember me, but we met when you were a few months old" the woman smiled at her, and Isabelle smiled back.

"It's nice to meet you" she said quietly.

Elizabeth didn't seem to hear her and turned back to talking with her mother.

"How is Charlie and Sam? How old are they now?"

"Charlie is sixteen now, Sam is fourteen, my daughter, Kristy, is eleven, and my youngest, David Michael, is seven"

Isabelle's mother smiled, "Oh, I didn't even know about them! Do you still live down the road?"

"Yes, right across the road!" she gestured to a house directly opposite their house, "We need to have you over for dinner at some point, perhaps tomorrow? Then Isabelle can meet Sam, I believe they're in the same grade in school"

"How can we say no? We would love to come around" Isabelle's mother smiled.

"Great! We will see you then, and I will try and arrange a date to catch up over some coffee" Elizabeth smiled, and they both said their goodbyes.

Rachel closed the door and turned to her daughter.

"There we go, it's not as bad as you think. Sam is your age, and I'm sure you will get along well"

"I guess"

"Oh, Belle, you need to see the positive side of Stoneybrook"

"But this is just one person, and what if we don't get along? Then I will have no friends"

"You're starting school at the start of the year, I'm sure you're not the only new student"

Isabelle sighed, "I'm going to go finish getting my books and things out of the boxes." She said, turning and walking up the stairs.

She took hold of one of the boxes, which was in a small pile on the landing upstairs, and she took it into her bedroom, opening it to reveal her neatly packed up books.

She took them and put them on her new bookshelf, placing ornaments and souvenirs she had picked up from various holidays along the top shelf.

Once she was done, she pulled out her phone and messaged one of her friends.
