Jungkook really didn't know what to expect.
He woke up in the morning peacefully. There were rare times where his dreams weren't consumed by the ugly past and he hoped this would be the case for longer. Jimin wasn't in bed with him, he remembers being close with Jimin the day before after their confession, but Jimin didn't come to bed with him claiming he had work.
Well that work ended up being planning their first official date. When Jungkook woke up he saw an outfit and a little note on top of it sitting on the edge of the bed.
hi, i have a surprise for you
wear this and meet me in the dining room x
The outfit was a pink sweater, white t-shirt and white pants. Jungkook had only worn bright colors when he was back in Busan, so when he looked in the mirror to admire himself and liked what he saw, he didn't expect it at all. The plush colors set beautifully with his skin tone and made him seem... cute, which he never thought he would want to seem but y'know, anything for Jimin.
He puts on the little white canvas shoes that was kept on the floor and makes his way to the dining room with a skip in his step. This outfit made him feel like being adored. And adored he was because Jimin's face lit up like never before when he made his way towards the older. He was leaning on the dining table watching Jungkook.
"Hi." He smiles and wraps his hands around Jimin's neck with the brightest smile to match his clothing. He doesn't assume that the clan members know of their relationship dynamic yet but he doesn't care. Let them watch, he thinks.
"Hello gorgeous." Jimin cups his waist, drinking him in. "I guessed that bright colors would suit you, and it's better than I ever expected."
"You're not too shabby yourself." Jungkook compliments. Jimin wasn't wearing a suit like he would usually. He wore jeans, a white t-shirt and a colorful Chanel tweed jacket.
"Have you seen you?"
"It's not a competition, two attractive men can co-exist at the same time." Jungkook shoots him a toothy grin.
"It's not a competition? A sentence I'd never thought would leave your mouth."
"I'm very unpredictable Jimin, you should know this." The younger says, casually leaving out the honorifics.
"Brat." Jimin scolds.
"So... what surprise do you have for me?"
"If I told you it wouldn't be a surprise anymore would it?" Jimin raises an eyebrow. "We have to get going. You have wear this." Jimin holds up a blindfold.
"Ooo kinky." Jungkook smiles mischievously.
-
Which brings him to now. He didn't know what to expect at all. Jungkook sat in the front seat trying to breathe as he felt the car speed down the road. Can't the older drive normally for once?
"Can't you drive normally for once?"
Jimin chuckles. "There's no fun in that now is there?"
"I can confirm that there is fun in driving in a way we don't die." Jungkook curls a little into the seat.
"We're not gonna die, don't you trust me yet?"
Jungkook mumbles some profanities which thankfully don't reach Jimin's ear.
Jimin grins widely, clearly enjoying teasing the younger. "We're almost there. If I drove slowly we wouldn't even be half way there yet."
"Better than feeling like I'm in a plane instead of a car."
"Here we are." Jimin announces and the car slowly rolls to a stop. "Wait here, I just need to do something."
Jungkook immediately hears the sound of the car door opening- "Wha-" and closing. Subsequently, he hears the sound of the trunk being opened and after a few minutes, closed again. Then, his door opens.
Jimin holds onto Jungkook's hand and helps him out of the car. They round the car and as he walks Jungkook can feel that the ground has become softer, in a way. The sounds of crickets and birds fill his ears.
"Where are we?"
"Take a look for yourself." Jimin replies and removes the blindfold.
They were in a field with the greenest grass he's ever seen in his life. He could see butterflies and small birds flying around at a distance. In front of him was a blanket with a food basket on it kept on the grass.
"Ta dah! It's a picnic. Thought it would be a nice idea for our first date! Planned it yesterday night." Jimin says hugging him from the back.
Jungkook turns around, cups the man's neck to give him a kiss. "It's perfect." He grins.
"I'm glad."
Jimin unpacked the picnic basket with brunch. Jungkook's mouth watered at the sight of his first meal of the day. It looked good and on top of that Jimin had actually made it, with the help of his chef. It was a nice effort which made Jungkook feel bad since he didn't help with anything but after seeing how excited Jimin was, he was at ease.
It was a bright sunny day, since winter was near it was still cool even in the plain fields. Breeze flew continuously through the land, rusting the grass and the trees. Jimin talked about how he was happy about the dishes he made and how he made them. The older seemed proud of his attempts which made Jungkook proud as well.
"So..." Jungkook digs into the food. "Is this what people usually do on dates?"
"You've never been on a date before?"
"Have you?"
Jimin nods with his mouth full. "I used to go on dates a lot when I was a teenager, not so much now. After the incident it was just hookups with random people I met at clubs. Any excuse to forget... y'know?"
Oh Jungkook knows... too well. He lowers his head to the food and nods, not wanting to make eye contact to give away anything about himself. Even though he's come to terms with being interested in Jimin, there was still that part of him which couldn't bring himself to trust anyone yet.
"I uh... I actually wanted to thank you..."
Jungkook raises an eyebrow. "For what?"
"Well, for yesterday... I didn't realize how long I'd been holding all that in." Jungkook found it fascinating how Jimin could hold eye contact by talking about something so close to him. "You helped a lot Jungkook-ah."
The younger still couldn't get used to Jimin calling his name. "I thought I was meddling..."
"Whatever it was it helped a lot... I feel like a whole weight has been lifted off my shoulders honestly."
"So does that mean you're gonna stop all this? Like going after the Jeon clan and stuff?"
"I can't do that. I still have to avenge my brother and I can't just let the Jeon clan get away with what they're doing."
Jungkook doesn't know why he found relief in those words. The more he thought about it the more he wanted the same as Jimin. But he couldn't tell him that, not yet. They fell into a comfortable silence as they mostly chewed on their food. Jimin was quite the talker, as he started up conversations about the weather, or the food, or even the shapes of the clouds in the sky.
"It looks like a cow I swear!" Jimin insists.
"That's just a blob on the sky Jimin." he giggles staring at the cloud Jimin was pointing at.
When he looks back down he sees Jimin looking at him smiling fondly. A look he's never seen before. He feels his heart thump faster and blood rise up to his cheeks. He knows this is okay and that he's come to terms with liking Jimin but there seemed to be a persistent part of his brain that demands Jungkook to stay away.
The younger replies to Jimin's questions neutrally, not wanting to regret anything he says. He just wants to have a good day and maybe get closer to trusting Jimin, even though the ugly monster in his heart detested the idea of being close to anybody.
