It was early in the morning when Hope and Freya stand in the condemned property in the woods near the Salvatore Boarding School. The twins didn't want to part take in any form of exercise giving Matthew time to sleep in, which really was just time spent on his phone. And Spencer to catch up on work he had been emailed by his teachers in order to not be held back a grade for not being in the country.
"Okay, let's see what you can do," Freya tells her niece who was decked out in athletic wear
At the cue Hope runs towards the wooden staircase in front of her, she takes two steps and then jumps up. With the jump wasn't a regular human jump but rather she was able to jump more than one foot high. Hope was able to take a hold of the rusted railing on the second floor, it took her a second to find her footing but when she was able to stand on the edge of the second-floor balcony she sighs in relief.
"Pretty cool, huh?" Hope asks turning around to look down at her aunt Freya who was looking up at her with a smile. Hope then lets go of the railing and jumps towards the a wooden railing and pushes off towards another step-down. Then at the edge of the staircase railing Hope jumps off landing on the tips of her toes, it was something her mom had taught her. If she was ever going to jump off something and land on her feet she must land on the tips of her toes and bend her knees. To never, ever land with her feet flat or straight feel.
Standing in front of her aunt Hope couldn't hold back her excited smile, "What do you think?"
"I think I wish I had core muscles like yours," Freya says with a smile letting her crossed arms fall to her side
"And that's nothing compared to what I'll be able to do once I trigger my werewolf side," Hope says with a smile and reaches down to grab her water bottle she had previously set on the ground.
"Yeah. Um..." Freya hesitantly says looking down at her niece who was raising the reusable water bottle to her lips, "Has your mom ever talked you through turning?"
"A little." Hope replies with a nod as she sets down her bottle back on the ground, "And I-I have friends. I mean, the whole killing a human part sounds kind of rough, but..."
"What about the whole breaking every bone in your body part? You know, when your mom talked to me about it, when she, um, really described it, it sounded worse than almost anything I could imagine." Freya says making Hope look away discouraged at her aunts' words "And, honestly, it's... it's not what she wanted for you"
"'Wants.'" Hope corrects distastefully "Not what she wants for me"
"That's what I meant," Freya says with a tight-lipped smile making Hope look away from her aunt realizing that while she still had hope that her mom and aunt were alive, the same couldn't be said about the adults around her.

Hope opened the door to her dorm room expecting her brother to have taken over her room once again. In the past days, she had learned to get used to entering her room and finding people in it rather than it being empty. It was rare for her and Matthew to interact so much while in school, but since they arrived back at the Salvatore School with their brother it was as if they were kids once again. Like their moms were gone for a trip and the siblings had to stay in the new home with their grandma Mary, only for the siblings to spend all of their time together.
