"Oh shit-" Kai was cut off as he fell flat on his face.
"Stupid trees, getting their roots stuck on my feet, they should just keep their roots to themselves." Kai grumbled under his breath while dusting dirt and leaves off of his pants.
Above him the sky thundered and flashed.
"You've got to be kidding me."
And not even a second later the first raindrops started falling from the sky.
Panicked he started to zigzag through the woods.

He'd barely run a few yards when the thunder sounded again and a waterfall came falling from the sky.
He tried to stay a bit dry by holding his hands over his head, but it didn't make much of a difference.
Within seconds he was completely soaked.

"I hate this. I hate these woods!" Kai skidded to a halt and yelled at the sky.
"First I'm kidnapped by an ugly Olgron just when I'm vulnerable! Then I'm saved by an angel only for both of us to get attacked by a stupid Kamairha!! He started to punch a tree, trying to release his frustrations.
"And then that stupid Olgron joins in and Lloyd gets hurt and exhausts himself for my sake and- and I don't even know what his bag looks like!" He yells gripping his now bruised knuckles.

'Stop. Stop panicking you idiot it's going to be okay.'
Screw the bag he'll get Lloyd a field of purple lilacs once they get out of here. The most important thing right now is food, shelter and a way out of these woods.

"Shoot I'm sorry Mr tree." He apologizes to the trees he'd hit and heads back towards the direction where he'd left Lloyd.

The rain has long since stopped and Kai has been walking around at a steady pace, but now there is a new issue.
Didn't I walk past that weird looking tree stump three times already?
Kai stops in his tracks.

'Oh no. I'm not lost am I?'

He frantically reaches into his power and picks up a stick.
He struggles to contain his magic but with a little burst the end of the wood catches his flame and becomes charred.
With a flick of his hand he quickly snuffs out the fire and he draws an arrow on the weird stump with the newly blackened end of the stick.
"Tadaa! A diy pencil." He says proudly to no one in particular as he resumes trying to walk in a straight line.
Now he'll know for certain if he really is going in circles.

But not ten steps further he almost trips over a tree stump with a black arrow drawn onto it.

No way. No freaking way.

Kai starts to panic and he runs back the way he came, but sixty steps later he still hasn't spotted the marked stump.
"What do I do?!" He yells as he hits his foot on the stump ten minutes later. "This forest is impossible to navigate! It's leading me in circles!" Panicked he pulls on his hair and starts to pace around.

"Wait hold on-" Kai stops pacing and tries to think logically.
'...yeah I'm an idiot, I live I a world with magic! Of course the explanation is probably magic!'

After calming himself down he closes his eyes and lets his magic flow all around.
It weaves itself between the branches and the leaves and seeps into the ground and the air.
Until it gets pulled into another stream of unfamiliar magic.

Yes!

Letting out a breath, Kai let's his magic be his eyes and starts following the unfamiliar magic to its source.
This however proves rather difficult as his magic would rather rage through the forest than follow a restricting flow.
Luckily after a few attempts it does obey him.
And after some exploring in the stream it becomes clear to him that this isn't unfamiliar magic at all.
It's a Wayfinder spell!
Kai tries to remember what his teacher had said.

'You cast a Wayfinder spell when you want people to head towards a specific location or keep them from it. Either way it messes up your sense of direction and the layout of the surrounding area. This is why under normal circumstances I would've noticed the shifting of my surroundings immediately, but I didn't because these trees are super dense! Yes! I've cracked the case right open!'
He thinks proudly.
