The Cruel Turn of Destiny
TaeTae’s POV
I'm officially heading to the company headquarters right now. After a week of suffocating darkness and tears, I am finally going to see my moonlight again. I can't even begin to explain the chaotic whirlwind of emotions crashing around inside my chest. It's a heavy, overwhelming mix—I am incredibly happy to go back to him, but at the very same time, a desperate nervousness is gripping my throat.
To quiet my racing mind, I chose to sit directly in the front passenger seat of the taxi. Looking at the busy morning streets, the lingering anxiety from that horrific, vivid nightmare of mine kept clawing at my thoughts, making me feel deeply unsafe.
"Sir, please just drive very slowly and carefully," I requested softly, looking over at the driver.
He offered a kind nod and complied immediately. We maintained a steady, cautious speed of only 30 kph. It was remarkably slow compared to the chaotic morning rush hour around us, but it felt so much safer.
I just don't want anything bad to happen to me today, I thought, clutching my bag tightly against my lap. Not after that terrifying dream. What if it was actually a warning? What if something horrible is waiting for me on the road?
I let out a shaky breath and forcefully closed my eyes. Haist... just never mind it, TaeTae. Stop letting your mind wander into those dark, negative spaces. We need to think positively instead. Because today, against all odds, you are finally going to see your Kookie.
The taxi ran beautifully and smoothly down the asphalt, the engine humming quietly. But all of a sudden, without a single second of warning—
BOOM!!!
A speeding, reckless vehicle violently slammed directly into our rear bumper from behind. The sheer, explosive impact sent a massive shockwave tearing through our car.
The violent jolt completely caught the taxi driver off guard. Shaken and in pure panic, he instantly lost total control of the steering wheel. The taxi careened wildly across the lane, swerving directly into the path of an oncoming vehicle in the opposite lane that was driving at full, lethal speed.
CRASH!!!
The second, devastating collision ripped through the front half of our car. The force of the impact was completely blinding. A sudden, terrifying numbness washed over my entire body. I couldn't feel my arms or legs; everything simply went completely cold.
Slowly, weakly, my eyes blinked open. Through a hazy, blurred fog, I realized I was entirely bathed in my own warm, flowing crimson blood. The world was spinning into darkness, but a desperate, frantic thought pierced through the pain. With the absolute last ounce of my fading strength, I forced my trembling hand to twitch upward, my fingers desperately sweeping across my opposite wrist.
I needed to check. I needed to see if it was still there.
My fingertips brushed against the smooth, cold metal cushion. Thank god... It was still safely fastened to my hand. The silver moon bracelet hadn't broken.
My chest seized, my lungs desperately struggling to draw in a single breath of air as the cold darkness began to swallow my vision entirely. With a final, agonizing heartbeat, a faint, heartbreaking whisper tore from my bloody lips:
