The morning sun bled through the curtains, painting the bedroom walls in soft hues of amber. Tae sat up abruptly, a ragged, terrified gasp tearing from his throat as the lingering images of the dark highway and blinding headlights vanished into the morning light.
It was officially six o'clock in the morning. He was wide awake now, his heart still hammering frantically against his ribs as he stared blankly at his trembling hands.
What on earth was that nightmare about? Tae thought, his breathing gradually slowing down as he forced reality to anchor him. Does a dream like that actually mean something? What if... what if something terrible is actually bound to happen to him?
"No! No, no! TaeTae, do not dare think like that," he scolded himself out loud, shaking his head aggressively to banish the dark thoughts. "Kookie is strong. Kookie will be absolutely fine."
A sudden wave of clarity washed over him, completely erasing the lingering anger and fear from the previous week. "I need to take a shower right now. I'm going back to work today. It's time to face him, clear the air, and fix everything between us."
A soft, longing smile touched his lips. "Kookie... just wait for me."
Stepping into the bathroom, Tae let the cascading sheets of hot water wash over his skin. Surrounded by the rising steam, his thoughts instantly drifted right back to his possessive boss. After a week of agonizing isolation, he couldn't deny his heart any longer. He fiercely missed Kook's touch, his shameless clinginess, and the intoxicating warmth of his arms. He simply missed him so incredibly bad it ached.
Once he finished, Tae carefully blow-dried his hair, styling the soft locks perfectly before slipping back into his crisp, pristine administrative uniform. He had honestly missed wearing it. Standing before the mirror, he dusted a light layer of powder over his face, his eyes sparkling with a familiar, nervous excitement.
It felt exactly like the very first day of school-that fluttering, anxious sensation in the pit of your stomach when you're incredibly excited to meet someone new. Except in Tae's situation, the only person he desperately wanted to meet was the absolute love of his life. His moonlight. His Kookie. He honestly couldn't wait to see him and throw his arms around him.
Stepping out of his room, Tae walked downstairs, fully prepared to quietly brew coffee and cook breakfast for his stepfamily to avoid any conflict. But the moment his feet hit the kitchen tiles, he froze in total shock. Ms. Bony and Jenny were already sitting at the dining table, happily eating. It was blindingly clear they had cooked the entire breakfast themselves-a completely unprecedented, bizarre sight in this household.
"Hey! Tae, come over here and eat your breakfast before you head out to work," Jenny called out, offering a remarkably warm, genuine smile.
Tae blinked, completely stunned. Woah... is this actually real? What on earth is going on today? Am I trapped in another dream? Is that really Ms. Bony sitting there peacefully?
"Hey, Tae," Jenny added, gesturing to the empty chair beside her. "Mom prepared all of this specifically for us. Come on, have a seat and eat your breakfast. What are you just standing there waiting for?"
Tae swallowed hard, completely unable to comprehend the sudden, drastic shift in reality. Just last week, Ms. Bony and Jenny had been exceptionally cold, cruel, and mean to him. Now, out of absolutely nowhere, they were acting like a sweet, nurturing family. It felt incredibly weird, but the delicious scent of the food won him over.
