The sharp, deafening ring of the explosion slowly faded into the crisp evening air. Kook’s head snapped toward the shoulder of the winding coastal highway, his hand instinctively dropping from his chest as he realized it wasn’t a weapon.
"What on earth was that sound?" Kook muttered to himself, his eyebrows knitting together as he looked through the dimming twilight.
A few meters down the road, a sleek, luxury sports car had pulled over onto the gravel, its hazard lights flashing rhythmically.
"Oh, shoot. I guess a tire exploded over there," Kook realized, watching a lone figure step out of the vehicle and kick the flattened rubber in pure frustration. "He looks completely stranded out here. Maybe he needs a hand."
Hoping to distract his mind from the crushing weight of his guilt and loneliness, Kook stood up from the rustic wooden bench. "Let me go see if I can help him."
Kook walked briskly across the scenic overlook, approaching the man who was currently struggling to position a hydraulic jack underneath the chassis. "Hey, man. Do you need some help with that?"
The stranger stopped what he was doing and slowly straightened up to look at Kook. He was dressed in expensive, tailored casual wear, his sharp features illuminated by the flashing amber hazard lights.
"Hey! Do you need a hand?" Kook offered politely again.
The man let out a weary, grateful sigh, rubbing the back of his neck. "Oh! Sorry to bother you, but yes, I really do need some help with this one... it’s honestly kind of impossible to handle alone. I tried calling a trucking service to tow it, but this remote stretch of the highway has absolutely no signal."
The man standing directly in front of Kook, accepting his kindness, was Kai.
If Kook had even the slightest inkling of the horrific, unforgivable trauma Kai had inflicted upon his precious TaeTae, the powerful CEO would have broken him in half right then and there. But wrapped in total ignorance, Kook simply nodded politely.
"Oh, I see. What exactly happened to the car, then?" Kook asked, peering down at the luxury vehicle.
Kai blinked, looking completely lost as he gestured vaguely at the wheel. "Huh? The problem? Honestly, all I know is that it violently exploded while I was driving." He offered a confused, helpless shrug. He clearly had absolutely no idea how to diagnose a mechanical issue, completely used to relying on high-priced mechanics to handle any inconvenience for him—a true mark of reckless, inherited wealth.
Kook couldn't help but let out a spontaneous, slightly boastful chuckle. "Wait, what? You drive a stunning, high-performance Ferrari like this, but you don't even know how to figure out what's wrong with a simple tire? Hahaha, you're hilarious, man. How could you not know? Here, move aside and let me do it for you. Just stand back, watch, and observe."
Leveraging his own sharp, hands-on knowledge, Kook took over the tools. Within a matter of minutes, his powerful hands smoothly loosened the lug nuts, lifted the sports car, and successfully replaced Kai's ruptured tire with the sleek spare.
Kai watched the efficient display in total awe, thoroughly impressed. "Alright! Done!" Kook declared, wiping his grease-stained palms together as he stood up. "There you go, man. It’s completely good to go."
