Chapter 31 -Date Night Part Six (The one where they confess?)

Wade's trip down memory lane came to a jarring halt at the sound of his name being called out by the man sitting next to him. A questioning hand rested on Wade's forearm. Wade glanced down at the younger man looking at him with one eyebrow raised out of curiosity.

"Wade? Are you alright?" Peter asked again, a little more concerned this time as his grasp on Wade became more firm trying to snap him out of his day dreaming. Wade pressed his lips firmly together ignoring the lump in his throat that was the sure sign that he was going to break down into tears. To force that feeling deep down inside of himself he instead focused on the person in front of him. It was such a strange thing to Wade, what made him so lucky that he would come across two people in his lifetime that would make him feel so loved. It definitely couldn't have been something he had done, because he was an actual asshole. Maybe this was that karma he had been waiting for that had come to bite him in the ass finally, he had someone in front of him that made his heart beat again. Yet, he was stuck, never able to reach out and grab the thing he wanted. This time it was going to be different, he had to convince himself. Wade was going to protect this person from himself. The self-destructiveness of his own personality, the danger he would surely bring him if he cared anymore then this. That fear held him firmly where he was, to make the same mistake again wasn't an option for Wade.

"Yeah I'm fine, sorry I think I just got a little lost in my own mind, it's quite the tricky place to maneuver out of," Wade said with a reassuring smile, choking back the rockiness that was his own voice which surely would give him away.

"You know you do that quite often?" Peter tilted his head slightly, "Why don't you just say what's on your mind? I would love to hear about what's troubling you, especially if it's something that would almost make you cry." His voice softened near the end, his hand never leaving Wade's arm.

Wade looked a little shocked but quickly composed himself, "What can I say this is just such a beautiful view it brings tears to my eyes."

"Wade..." Peter warned softly.

"Wade." Vanessa warned.

Wade felt his heart race, that same strangling feeling within himself washed over him again, that breathless emotion he felt the night he found out about her death. Desperation to get away overtook him, I can't do this again!

Before Wade could even react he felt his face being turned towards Peter, the little spider had his face firmly clasped between his hands and he stared deeply into Wade's eyes. "Hey hey, come back to me Wade. You need to breathe." Even though Wade tried to move his head a little, the strength from Peter was quite difficult to escape. "Breathe with me." Peter released his hands and grabbed Wade's hand, placing it firmly to his chest. Wade could feel his small chest raising and falling slowly, Peter nodded signally Wade to try and follow his pace. The racing of his heart subsided all in an instant and it seemed like his whole being was calm as he felt Peter's heart beat calmly in his chest.

There were a lot of similarities between Peter and Vanessa, it was hard to deny that Wade had obvious feelings for the younger man because of those similarities. However, the parts of Peter that were distinctly his own, were the parts that Wade loved the most. Vanessa was his first love but Peter was his first soulmate. The person that Wade felt he had been waiting for his whole life and in that moment of realization his heart finally calmed and he no longer felt the need to escape. Trying to run away from his own feelings was Wade's signature move but this time he wasn't going to step one foot outside of that threshold. Wade would face these feelings head on.

The slight breeze blew around them calmly and silently, Wade couldn't hear anything around him beside the own pounding of his chest. The realization of the fact that he wanted Peter and this time he wasn't going to let himself get in the way was driving him crazy. A mixture of embarrassment and overwhelming love made his heart pound in his chest.

"Wade calm down-" Peter stopped out of surprise when Wade gently placed his hand to his cheek and pulled his other hand away from Peter's chest instead grasping his hand and putting both their hands to the ground. "Wade?" Peter seemed surprised.

Of course, he was surprised a man that he was friends with only a moment before was inching closer to his face like he was getting ready to kiss him. Well, that was what Wade was planning on doing so Peter was justified to be surprised. Peter didn't pull away from him though even though he was obviously confused.

"Peter I -" This time it was Wade that was interrupted by a loud bang that caused both men to look in the direction.

"Those didn't sound like fireworks huh?" Peter sighed out audibly in what Wade could only assume was disappointment. So he does have feelings for me. Wade couldn't help but grin.

Another loud bang made Peter's eyes narrow as he tried to pinpoint the sound, Wade loved when he did that. Peter in professional Spider man mode always made his little mercenary heart race. Wade felt as if he had a huge weight lifted off of him, coming to terms with his emotions was the push Wade needed to come to terms with himself.

Another loud sigh came from Peter, "Let's go handle that," He said as he got to his feet reluctantly, brushing his pants off and reaching a single hand out to Wade. "But don't forget what you were about to say." Peter smiled.

Wade smirked and took Peter's hand allowing him to pull him from his seated position, before Peter was able to run off towards the noise Wade pulled him into his chest wrapping his arms around him. Peter was so small in his grasp that it felt like Wade could break him if he wasn't careful. Wade felt Peter's arm wrap around his waist tightly, like he never wanted to let go.

"We better go save the world again," Peter mumbled, Wade nodded in agreement, there was plenty of time for them.
