Chapter 2

After lunch Lumi and I drive to the studio, we both get off and head inside, we greet my manager and producer

"So what do you have for me today?"

My producer asks and I shrug

"So I have this song right, it's been in my head for the most of today and I just want to get it out"

I explain and he nods

"hit me with something"

He says, I take a deep breath and exhale before starting humming what has been bothering me the whole of today since I met Asante

"Sounds nice, different than what you normally sing"

My manager says and I nod

"It is. So can you work out a beat for me that sounds like this?"

I ask Azura and he nods

"Play something for me on the piano and we'll see"

He says and I walk to sit behind the piano and start playing, he records it and when I am done playing I return to sit beside him

"Since when do you do love songs?"

Inathi my manager asks and I shrug my shoulders

"I guess I want to try something new"

I say in my defence, Azura plays the beats that he has managed to mix based on what I played on my piano

"turn up the tempo a bit"

I suggests and he does just that

"It's missing something"

I say

"How about you add this"

Lumi says playing something on the piano

"But instead of the piano use a violin"

He adds and I take the violin sitting in the corner and play the sound again and he was right, it actually sounds better. Growing up with a grandfather who owned a studio and was a great musician I always wanted to be the next him and so my parents enrolled me in the best music school where I learnt how to play most musical instruments and I guess they all came in handy because my music is different, my beats are different than your ordinary beats and my voice allows me to reach notes unattainable by other musicians. We work on the beat until it comes together and it's perfect

"I love it!"

Inathi says unable to contain his excitement

"I know right? It's perfect"

I says

"I'm going to the booth"

I say and then leave them and go to the sound booth and get in front of the mic and start singing the song that's been on my mind

"May be we meant to be but baby

Not sure if I want this may be

Don't even know you

Lets leave in the moment

May be I'm a little crazy

But I know I want to be with you

You got me messed up so bad

Can't even stand no more cause I'm all dizzy"

I continue singing the whole thing until I'm done and then ask Azure to replay it to check where I'll have to do some voice overs

"Ready?"

He asks and I nod, I listen to the song and add voice layovers where I feel needed and when I'm done I go and join them. He plays it from the beginning

"This is about that girl you met today?"

Lumi asks and I smirk, he chuckles

"Can I add a little something?"

He asks and I nod, he walks to the booth and adds his own voice overs and they sound better than the ones I did. When he's done he comes back

"Lets see"

he says and Azure plays the song from scratch and I am really happy with how it's come together

"If meeting girls makes you come up with such music then you are going to Braam every time we have to make an album"

Inathi says and we all laugh

"You sick! So I was thinking you polish it up and then we leak it tonight"

I say to Azure

"You serious?"

Inathi asks and I nod

"Yes I'm serious, I want to shoot the video for it instead"

I tell then and they laugh

"I don't think Ace will be happy about this"

I chuckle

"He'll live"

I say and just then my phone rings, I excuse myself and answer it

"Hello"

I say, it's an unsaved number

"Hi, may I speak to Aaron Langa"

She says with her most humble voice

"This is he speaking, may I ask who this is?"

I ask

"Asavela, we met today at Braam and you gave me your card"

She says and I go silent for a while trying to remember the person

"Asante's friend?"

I confirm, I'm not the best person with names but I did catch Asante's name

"Yes"

She says

"Oh I remember you, where's your friend?"

I ask walking out of the studio

"She's sleeping"

She says, I look at my watch and it's past 8

"That's sad, I really thought she'd come around"

I say sadly

"Sadly, so about the video"

She starts off

"If your friend agrees to go on one date with me then you got the role"

I say in my 'not up for discussion tone'

"I will get back to you on that tomorrow. This is her number by the way"

She says and I scoff, knowing girls and how they are Asante is probably watching her friend talking to me because she's maybe intimidated by me or something

"Nice. Enjoy the rest of your night Vela"

I say

"Thank you, you too"

she says and I drop the call, I look at my phone and save the number while chuckling at what just happened to myself. If this is the game she wants to play then I'm game
