You Are My Sunshine

Her eyes were so beautiful.

Especially when she was happy. Her eyes sparkled, putting the stars she loved so much to shame. He could just stare at those chocolate eyes for the rest of time and he would never get bored.

It had been awhile since he last saw them shine with happiness and he didn't realize just how much he missed it. When she walked in, Lucy lit up the whole guild just by her presence. And when she smiled -the first real smile in months- everybody couldn't help but plaster on a huge grin on their faces. It was magnificent, because they had gotten their light again. And while it was dimmed, it was still there. Everyone was happy now, even the ones who were having a bad day at the start.

People who didn't know the blond would blame it on magic, but Natsu knew better. This, this was the Lucy that everyone knew and loved. The one that he loved. And while he had a gut feeling (Natsu has learned to always trust his gut) that this happiness radiating off his best friend would probably only last today, he choose to ignore that.

He tried to push the memories away from a few months prior, but he couldn't help the shiver that raced up his spine at the image of those now cheery eyes filled with hate.

"You can't seriously be thinking of letting this piece of shit into the guild, right?" Natsu had never heard this tone of voice before in Lucy. He didn't even think she was capable of truly hating anyone let alone showing it.

Kai seemed like a nice man, too. He actually had hoped to become friends with him, which he is now glad he didn't. Once he got a glimpse of Lucy's eyes, he knew this man was not meant to be trusted. Lucy's eyes where darkened now, almost black. Her eyes where stone cold with a rage being barely contained inside of them. He could sense the faint intent of murder. Natsu almost felt his soul leave his body when he realized that was coming from Lucy. The Lucy who hated to fight and always tried to find another way around hurting the enemy if possible.

And for the first time, Natsu was scared of Lucy.

He watched the whole scene happen, not doing anything. He felt that if he stepped in then things would only get worse. He almost got in the way when that bastard of a man went to close to his Lucy. He couldn't hear what he said, even with his dragon hearing, but he knew it was bad; if how Lucy reacted was anything to go by.

He felt a wave of relief rush through him when he saw Juvia stop her from possibly killing the man. But when Kai's true identity was relieved, Natsu almost wished that the water user hadn't stopped her.

Having all her celestial spirits was definitely one of the most surprising factors of the day. Natsu knew that his Lucy was getting stronger, but being able to summon every single one... Natsu was really proud of her.

When Lucy showed the new magical starry dress (is that what it's called? Natsu couldn't remember) he almost fell of his chair. Not only could he feel the waves of magic radiating off of her, but it was how she looked.

She was the most beautiful creature he had ever had the pleasure of Laying eyes on. Sure, she looked spectacular in the dress, but it was her expression that made Natsu's heart go crazy. Her face held confidence and she looked so strong. She seemed so proud of herself and Natsu could've sworn that he had forgotten to breathe.

When Erza said they should dual sometime, Natsu almost fell off of his chair because to have Erza ask that was a great compliment. Luce seemed to think so, too, because her face had brightened up with pure happiness. Natsu had immediately told her that she was amazing. And to his surprise, Lucy hugged him. It was quick, but Natsu felt the gratitude that was embedded into it.

And then she laughed. The sound was just as beautiful as she was and everyone who heard it all fell silent before once again smiling at there celestial mage. No one had heard her laugh in ages and it was refreshing. Like a breath of fresh air.

When she had told them that she was tired and was going to head home, Natsu fought hard to hide his disappointment. He watched with a sad smile as she said her goodbyes as exited the guild.

"Hey, Natsu?" He turned his head to meet the scarlet devil (Otherwise known as Erza).

"Yeah?"

"You know she's probably going to be back to her..." Erza stopped for a moment, trying to figure out the word she as going to use, "usual when we see her again, right?" The red head's normally stern voice was now soft, with a tinge of sadness.

Natsu let out a sigh, "Yeah, I know. It's just... I wish I could do more. I keep trying to get her to open up, but it's not working. Do you think... she doesn't trust me anymore?" It was so much harder saying it out loud than he thought it would be. The thought of Lucy not trusting him threatened to burn a whole through his heart.

Erza quickly shot off the idea right away, "Lucy trusts you with every fiber of her being. Some things take time, just be patient."

"But I have been patient!" Natsu snapped, but quickly lowered his voice, "Sorry. I just hate seeing her like this. And I hate that I can't do anything about it, no matter how hard I try."

"I know it's hard, but things get better. They always do."

Natsu knew she was trying to convince herself more than trying to convince him in that moment. Which almost made things even more stressful. If the Titania was worried and didn't know what to do, how could he ever hope of finding the solution? He could tell that even Levy was stumped on what had happened to her best friend.

Natsu let out a stressed sigh, hoping that he would get to see her soon.

Three weeks go by before he has the chance to see the celestial mage again.

She is on edge, he notices. Her shoulders hunched up and her steps have a little jump to it. Natsu gets reminded of the promise he made; the promise to always be by her side, no matter what. But how is he supposed to do that when she disappears for weeks at a time? He knows that Lucy can take care of herself, but he still earns to protect her. By now, it's instinct; he doesn't even think about it because to him, Lucy is his life. She is his light in the never ending tunnel and without her, he would just be a shell of a human.

He wants to talk to her, needs to talk to her, but before he gets the chance she walks right by him.  He follows her trail with his eyes and sees her going towards the old man's office. His mind screams at him to follow her and see what she's doing, but he forces himself to stay still. Natsu starts tapping his fingers against the table and takes quick glances at the direction she went off to as he waits for Lucy to return.

Thirty minutes go by before he gets to see her face again but it seemed like an eternity. Natsu takes notice on how Lucy looks a lot more relaxed now, like a weight has been lifted off of her shoulders. He makes eye contact with her and smiles. She smiles back and walks towards the exit of the guild and going outside.

Natsu stares at her back wondering when the next time he'll get to see her again.

Hi!! This book is almost done. Like maybe four more chapters??? It really depends on how long they are. I'd like to finish it before school starts, but that's just me hoping. The next chapters (definitely the next one) will be a lot longer, hopefully over 2000 words.

Hope everyone has/had a great day (or something better than a bad one)
