I roamed round every nook and cranny of the city in search of a job, there were companies ready to hire me, most didn't offer a good pay like my previous job did on a monthly bases, others were local companies which weren't popular neither offered a good salary.
I earned more from running an online blog, than what they had to offer in most of this companies, but still I needed a reliable job, I could have a job and still run my blog at the same time.
I kept on searching under the scorching sun, most of the times I got frustrated and almost gave up, my mom had given me a week and I had just two days left to find a job.
The best job offers I got were the ones from companies outside Los Angeles, this made me realise that my previous work place was one of the high ranked media house in LA with a very good pay.
As I struggled under the hot sun sweating nonstop, a familiar Range Rover stops at my front.
Chuck steps out of the car looking all pompous as usual this time he had a driver with him.
"hi my lady" he said as he adjust his suit collar
"what? " I said with a frown on my face
"where are you heading to "
"that's none of your business, now excuse me, don't irritate me this afternoon." I said as I walked passed him.
"see I can take you to wherever you're heading to, a pretty girl like you shouldn't be under the sun "
"okay fine, I'm going to see my boyfriend, will you take me there "
He puts on an evil smirk as he chuckles.
"there's a certain lev to disrespect, to be honest with you, I can't do that"
"okay fine, then leave me here"
"on one condition "
"what??? "
"come back and work with my company, this time we'll pay you double your previous salary $5000 and you'll get the credit
for your work""I'm not interested "
"Waow forming hard to get, did your boyfriend discourage you from working with my company"
"see I care about your dreams, and it would make me happy to see you fulfill those dreams, as for your boyfriend his stopping you from achieving your goals, because of his mare jealousy Think about it, is that love" he exclaimed
"His just been selfish " he whispers to my ears.
He storms out of my presence and jumps into his car, the car drives off in a very high speed, releasing a massive residue of dust behind, leaving me to breath in such unfiltered air.
"his such a jerk" I said to myself in anger.
***********
I had arrived at Joel's apartment to see him. We both laid on his bed after a long session of intimacy, he lived in a self contain alone, so we had the whole place to ourselves everytime.
"Joel can I ask you for a favour" I said placing my head on his chest as I looked straight into his eyes
"sure my love " he said giving me a light kiss on the lips.
"can I come stay with you for a while "
"sure of course, I've always wanted that" he said with a face full of joy.
"Did anything go wrong with you and your mom " he asked curiously.
"we had an argument, I can't stay with her anymore, she's asking too much from me"
"it's alright, you can stay with me for as long as you want"
"so when are you moving in" he asked me
"is tomorrow okay with you"
"sure, do you want me to come pick you up from there"
"yes, thank you so much" I said giving him a tight hug.
**********
It was 9:45pm when I arrived home, Joel had dropped me home after we had dinner at a resturant.
When I got into the house everywhere seemed really quiet, the lights to the sitting room and kitchen had been shut off.
Normally my mom would always sit on the couch everytime watching her favorite soap operas, but today the house rather seemed so quiet.
I walked towards the switch to turn on the lights in the parlour, then I made my way to climb the stairs, heading straight to my mom's room to check on her.
I gently knocked on the door several times, but no reply, I called out to her still no reply, I banged harder still I didn't get any response from her.
For a minute I panicked, then I pulled the door handle to see if the room was locked, the door seemed to have been left unlocked the lights were switched off, I turned on the switch so I could check on her.
But she was nowhere to be found on her bed, I rushed into her bathroom still nowhere to be found, I started getting very anxious and frustrated.
My mom had always come home early after her work, even if she had anywhere to go she would let me know.
I ran downstairs to check every corner of the house just to be sure I wasn overreacting, still she was nowhere to be found.
I dip my right hand into my bag in a rush to reach out for my phone.
I unlocked my phone scrolling to my caller as I dialed her number. The call didn't connect several times, I became extremely worried, i then called her one last time, then the call went through, my heart started pounding slowly with hopes that she would pick, but there was no reply.
I became scared all of a sudden this is the first time my mom wasn't home at this time, she would always preach against staying out at night.
I opened my phone dialed her number over again but still no answer, i decided to call Joel for his assistance.
"Joel!! " I said in a heist
"dear I just got home, can we speak in some few minutes time"
"Joel hold on!, hold on!, my mom isn't home, I'm really scared I've been looking for her"
"maybe she went out with some friends"
"No my mom doesn't go out at night, and she always let's me know of her unusual activities "
"babe chill your mom is a grown woman, she's old enough to take care of herself, besides you said you two have been having issues, I'm guessing that is why she didn't bother text you, she's still upset. Just go to bed and relax, just relax it's well"
"okay" I breathe in and out
"but how can I be sure" I spoke in fear"babe chill, should I come over "
"No don't worry, goodnight"
"bye dear"
I hanged up.
