I sat on the dining chair in grandpa's house as I waited for him to make his special coffee for me.
I still had unanswered questions for him, and I wasn't planning on leaving without any answers.

He slowly paced to the dining table with two cup of coffee on both his hands, I rushed to meet up with him immediately as i collected both cups from him.

After he had finally had his sit, we both sipped our coffee several times, then I started a conversation.

"so grandpa last time you didn't answer my question"

"what question?" he asked pretentiously

"come on Grandpa"

I grabbed my bag from the chair beside me bringing out the wedding picture out of my bag.

"this!" I said handing it over to him.

"my dear some things are better left in the past"

"I just want to know"

"why"

"I don't know, something deep down in me just craves to know, at first I wanted to ignore everything but I've been having restless nights just thinking about this wedding picture, I mean I might have other siblings, you can never tell maybe the lady in the picture had children for my dad"

"okay before I tell you I think it's very important for your mom to be here, let me make a call to her "

"No!! Please don't let her know"

"see you are still going to find out, let me call her first"

He gets up from the chair and walks straight to the corridor to make the phone call.

after a while it seemed my mom wasn't responding to his calls, he then heads back to the dining.

"she isn't picking"

"let me try call her"

I stretched my hands into my bag which was placed beside the chair I sat, I pulled out my phone from the bag and started dialing her number, after several attempts to reach her all the calls kept going straight to voicemail.

"She isn't picking, maybe she's busy" I said as I slowly dropped the phone on the dining table making eye to eye contact with grandpa

"oh well... "

"... I still want to know, she doesn't have to know "

"Allie it's not as easy as it seems"

"grandpa I know life's not easy, but we always have to face it's ups and down"

"Allie you're sure you want to know"

"yes!!!"

"fine it's not in my place to tell you,  but I'll do it" he inhales and exhales.

"Allie would you ever believe if anyone tells you that the Woman you live with is not your mom "

"what?"

I became scared immediately he said that, I wanted to freak out so badly but I had to stay calm.

"Yes my child, the lady you call mom is not your biological mom,  the one in the picture is your real mom "

"how is that possible" I asked as tears started gathering in my eyes

"grandpa please don't lie to me, it's better you say the truth, If my dad had a family before us then please admit it"

"My child I'm sure you can see the resemblance between you two "

he said as he slowly gets up from his chair heading towards me. He takes a seat closer to me, he puts his right hand round my shoulder leaning me close to his chest as he pats my shoulder to comfort me.

"it's okay dear don't feel bad"

"Grandpa please don't lie to me,  because this lie hurts more than any other thing" I said crying out loud

"I wish it wasn't true, but that is the truth"

"what happened, did she find out my dad had someone else then she left"

"No, your mom wasn't like that she would never do that, she died two months after giving birth to you,  after a while she became really sick and her body couldn't take it anymore. After her death your dad was devastated he didn't know how to take care of a child. Then he met your mom, he wasn't really interested in getting remarried but he needed someone to take care of you"

"so the lady I live with is just a stranger"

"Don't say that, she has been with you all this time you have to appreciate her"

"why didn't she have any kids for my dad"

"They tried so bad, but they couldn't have any"

"God" I cried shaking my head as I placed my two hands on my forehead.

My phone starts ringing, immediately I checked the screen to know who it was.

"hello detective"

"please be at the station"

"okay" I hanged up

"Grandpa thanks for everything, I have to be going now"

"okay dear, take care" he embraces me tightly.
