A month had gone by leading to Joel's death,  there were no suspects to reprimand.

The police officers looked for extra DNA on Joel's body and clothes,  but they were none, mine wasn't even found.

As on that day he had left for work very early, so we didn't get to see all through the day.

The DNA test for my mom and chuck had come out, there were no match. Chuck's polygraph test came out and he passed.

The detective had gone to interrogate the neighbor who had called me on that day, but he achieved nothing, but only confirmed what I had told him was true.

The case had started to go cold,  there were no new leads, the surveillance camera at Joel's apartment complex showed that after Joel had left the apartment that morning he never came back, neither did anyone go to visit him during the day.

The question was how did Joel's body appear in the apartment without the surveillance camera capturing his entry.

That became the detective recent focus. I started staying at my mom's as I feared for my safety.

chuck had started visiting more frequently at my house this made me suspect him, but he had passed the polygraph test and had strong evidence that he was at work all day.

I just didn't have a good feeling about his frequent visit.

I started suspecting if he had paid off the police deputy to give out a different statement.

I was at the kitchen washing some plates when I heard a knock on the door, I rushed to check who it was as I was eager to hear from the detective.

When I peeped through the hole it was chuck standing outside, I felt like leaving him out there to knock his life out.

But my conscience wouldn't let me,  after all he had been there for me,  even if there are chances he could be faking.

I opened the door with a false grin on my face.

"come in" I said to him

"Thank you" he said to me as he looked all humble.

He walks into the house and takes a sit.

"is your mom home " he asked me

"no"

"oh OK, so have you heard anything new on the case"

After the whole surveillance issue I knew finding the criminal would be tougher than it seemed, so I decided to hide all I knew to make sure I didn't give the real criminals the inside scoop of the investigation

"No, nothing new "

"Waow that's sad, I hope you're getting better"

"well it's very difficult, Joel was the love of my life so it's not going to be easy to get over it, that's if I can ever get over it" I said to him calmly

"so what would you like to take " I asked him

"well water is fine by me"

"okay, if you say so "

I walked into the kitchen, took a glass cup and filled it with water from the refrigerator.

I walked back into the living room handing over to him a chill glass of water.

"Thanks " he takes a sip from the water

"so I would be out of town tomorrow, I won't be able to visit you for a while, but I'm hoping we still get to stay in touch, so I could check up on you "

"I don't think that is necessary " I said putting on a pretence smile

"no I insist "

"okay then, if you say so" "I was doing the dishes I hope you don't mind if I continue with it" I said to him.

"sure,  i'll wait here till you're done"

"okay "

I picked up the TV remote, turned on the TV then handed over to him the remote.

"you may keep yourself company with the TV for now "

"sure"

I walked into the kitchen and continued with the plates.

Two hours had gone by since chuck had been in my house, we had a really fun time chatting, he really made me laugh a lot.

But then he had to go home, I excort him from the house to his car, we exchanged goodbye with each other, he gave me a kiss on the right cheek. He entered his car and fled.

After chuck had gone I went into the house to get some rest, as I made my way to the stairs I had a dizzy spell, I almost fell to the ground but I held myself back.
