Brenda had finally sent her chase account number to me through an SMS, I quickly picked up the receipt comparing both the one on the phone and the one on the receipt. They were both a match, I asked myself why my mom would send Brenda money and why Brenda didn't let me know, even after our conversation.
I was so confused at that moment, I didn't know if I should confront Brenda about this or ignore the whole situation, or maybe try find out what was happening by myself.
"what is going on here" I whispered to myself
My phone starts ringing, it was Brenda calling.
"have you received my message " brenda asked
"yes thank you, I'll send it to the person. Hmmm Brenda could we meet? "
"sorry i'm not in Cali at the moment"
"oh ok, see you when you get back then"
"sure" Brenda said. Then she hangs up.
"oh so no goodbye's, how odd" I said staring at my phone screen.
Two weeks later, it was a cool afternoon, the sun was out but the heat didn't radiate too much.
I sat on a bench at the front porch of my house when I received a call from detective robles."good afternoon detective " I greeted
"good afternoon, please we need you at the police station"
"okay i'm on my way" I said hanging up the phone, heading straight into the house to get my purse.
*******
Twenty minutes later, I rushed into the police station running straight to Detective Robles office.
I knocked on the door gently.
"come in!!"
I opened the door rushing into the office to meet him.
"good afternoon, you called why? " I asked with high expectations.
"well I have news for you. We got a little description of the killer"
"really?!" I asked with so much joy "how did you get this information"
"well a lady who witnessed the shooting came out to speak. For the past few months she has been scared to talk, but anyways she said she wanted to help out"
"so what did she say"
"okay she started by telling me how she saw everything, she said on that day she was through with her shift, she and Joel worked at the same place. She said she liked to pass a road which was a bit deserted and lonely, because it was a short cut, she said as she strolled on the bushy side of the road, she noticed Joel was walking alone, she was about rushing towards him so they could walk together but before she could meet up with him, she saw a lady on black approach him from behind, he didn't notice she was behind him, the lady said before she could blink twice, the lady brought out a pistol shooting Joel on the head and chest"
After hearing this I placed my left hand on my mouth covering it, I was dumbfounded. Detective Robles continued talking after taking a sip of coffee.
"The lady said she wanted to scream, but the road was deserted, if she had screamed the killer would come after her, so she said she stayed quiet as she hide amongst the bush, she waited hoping that the killer would leave him there to die, but no, the killer put him inside the trunk of a red van"
"did she get the car number"
"yes, she did"
"so is that all, how does the killer look like? "
"well she said the criminal wore something like a carnival mask, she had really dark black hair, which had big curls, and really brown eyes, was really tall, a bit curvy. But the truth is they're many girls like that out there, but our plan is to track the car number"
Detective Robles stayed quiet for a while observing my hair, but I had a straight hair which was a combination of a really light brown and black which wasn't too sharp.
"is anything the matter"
"well I know they're lot of girls who might have that description, but do you know anyone who has those description, she said the lady looked around 5"11 or maybe taller"
"well I don't really know much people, but my friend Brenda has those description"
"really"
"yeah, but at the moment she isn't in Cali, so it couldn't be her" I jokingly said
"does she keep big curls"
"big curls!, Brenda loves big curls, she could die for those, she always goes for big curls" I laughed .
"when did she leave Cali? And does she own a van? "
"I don't know when she left, and no she doesn't own a van, can you please stop suspecting my friend. Besides there's a huge possibility that the lady who came here is the killer, she might just be looking for who to pin it on"
"That's a possibility, but we are going to work with what we have, when your friend is in Cali let us know, she needs to be questioned"
"come on for real"
"you were his soon to be wife and you stand to gain nothing from his death, but still we interrogated you, then who is she not to be interrogated"
"sorry for that, I didn't mean it that way"
I started preparing myself to leave, but there was something on my mind that I had to tell someone about.
"detective, today I called my friend Brenda, and she was consoling me for Joel's death, but I didn't tell her about his death, so I confronted her a bit, I had asked her how she knew, she told me she saw it on the newspaper, but she isn't in Cali. If I may ask, has the news of Joel's death gone outside Cali"
"As for now no, we intend on making it viral when we find the killer or maybe if the case doesn't get new leads. And also if we find the criminal and maybe he or she is wanted by the law"
"okay"
"Your friend said she saw the news of his death on the newspaper and she's not in Cali. When she gets back let us know "
"okay bye and thank you once again"
