Obsidian eyes met my amber colored eyes, they seemed cold and dark, maybe even a little bored. His mouth was twisted into a frown, and his eyebrows were furrowed. His hair had gotten a bit longer, and was a little more flat, but only barely.
He had changed his clothing, it was completely different from before. A shirt, that was mostly opened so you could see his chest, showing that he was still in shape. His pants were a little baggy maybe, and he had a weird skirt thing wrapped around him, secured with an obi.
The wind pleasantly blew by as we all stared him down, my eyes stayed on his, even though he had switched his gaze to Naruto. “So, all of you were here, huh?” I shuddered slightly as he talked, and Yamato calmly walked out to us.
“Is Kakashi here too?”
“Sorry, he’s not. I’m his substitute.” Yamato answered casually. “Team Kakashi will be taking you back to Konoha, now.”
Sasuke’s expression, or lack of one, didn’t change at this news. “Team Kakashi…” He brought his eyes towards me again, and I stared, hopeful for a flicker of emotion, but there was nothing. His stare lingered for a few seconds, before glancing over at Sai.
Sai suddenly took his sword that was attached to his back, pointing it towards our former teammate. Which brought us back to what we were doing before Sasuke had caught our attention. “I knew it!” Sakura shouted at him.
“So he’s my replacement, hm?” Sasuke guessed in a dull voice. “He’s a soft one, saying stuff about protecting the bond between Naruto and me, but…”
We all looked confused, and Sakura was the one to speak up. “Sai, I thought your mission was to kill Sasuke-kun”
“It was my classified mission, yes. But I’m done with orders, I want to act on my own beliefs… and I think Naruto can help me remember my past emotions.” Sai explained, and then directed his words towards Sasuke. “I don’t know you very well, but there must be a reason why these three have pursued you so passionately.”
“They want to secure those bonds with you, I don’t understand it. But Sasuke, you should.”
Sasuke took a moment, closing his eyes. “Yeah, I did. That’s why I severed those bonds.”
Naruto and Sakura seemed surprised, over something that honestly wasn’t that surprising.
“I have different bonds now, bonds of hatred with my older brother. Having too many bonds causes one to to lose focus, weakening their strongest wish, their greatest desire.”
Part of me wanted to roll my eyes at him, but the other part felt kind of sad. He just sees us as inconveniences...
“If that’s the case, then… why didn’t you just kill me off back then?!” Naruto yelled. “You think you could break our bond, Sasuke?”
“It’s not that I couldn’t,” Sasuke said, “It was just irritating to me. Obtaining power based on the method he told me.”
“What do you mean?”
“It’s not necessary to explain to you.” He told Naruto, like a jerk that he is. “Back then, you’re only alive because of my passing whim.”
It went silent after that, and before we could blink, Sasuke was in front of us, his arm around Naruto.
Ah, he’s fast…
I wanted to do something, but my mind was racing, and I couldn’t think. This dumb Uchiha really does still have an effect on me.
“Come to think of it, wasn’t your dream to be Hokage?” I got into a defensive stance as he continued talking. “If you had the time to be chasing me, you should’ve spent that time training or something.”
