"What are you doing here?"

Cole looks at me a little perplexed. He's not sporting any swim trunks today, but he still looks good. He's got on a grey shirt rolled up mid forearm and black pants. Very sophisticated. I wonder why he's all dressed up?

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean for it to come out like that," I apologize.

He shakes his head. "That's okay. I sometimes come here for breakfast. I only live a couple blocks away."

"Oh. Would you like to sit down?" I say pointing to the other side of the booth.

He looks around the diner. "Isn't your husband here with you?"

"No. He's back at home, working. I'm here by myself."

"Oh, okay. Sure, I'll join you." He sits down across from me, smiling.

Amanda comes walking over. "Morning, Cole. What can I get you today?"

"I'll have the pancake platter, with hash browns, and wheat toast."

"Sounds good. Orange juice to drink?"

"Yep."

"I'll go put your order in and be right back with your orange juice." Amanda walks away from the table.

I look over at Cole. "A couple of times, huh?"

He blushes, looking down. "Maybe more than a couple times."

I laugh, taking a drink of my coffee.

Amanda brings Cole's orange juice over. "Can I get you more coffee?"

"Yes, please."

Cole looks up from taking a drink of his orange juice, "So you said your husband is at home, working?"

"Yeah. I'm visiting my parents. He's back in Chicago."

"Chicago? Really? I've never been there."

"I was born and raised there. I love it."

"What do you and your husband do?"

"My husband is the assistant district attorney and I work as a charge nurse at a hospital downtown."

"Wow. That's incredible."

"Thanks."

Amanda comes back with Cole's order. "Is there anything else I can get for you?"

We both say "No" in unison.

"So, Cole... What is it that you do for a living?"

He finishes chewing, before answering. "I'm a flight instructor."

"That's so exciting! Where at?"

"At Beaver Aviationin Fort Myers."

My phone rings, interrupting our conversation. I look at it, setting it face down on the table.

Cole points to my phone. "Don't you want to get it?"

"No. It's just my husband. I'll call him back."
