Braxton's POV

I look over at the clock on my desk and groan. It's already 10:00 pm and I haven't come up with a good opening argument for the case that I'm working on. Don't get me wrong, I love being the Assistant District Attorney, but sometimes these cases can really get to you. I've been working overtime to get everything together for this case, and it feels as though I've accomplished nothing. I'm a little more on edge these days, but I chalk it up to working long hours and dealing with all the bullshit in the office.

I suppose I can take one last look at my emails before I head home. I open the one from my secretary, Sarah. My stomach drops. FUCK! Tomorrow is my five year anniversary! Sarah sent me a reminder email about it. I can't believe I forgot my anniversary! My wife is so going to kill me! I look at the clock again, 10:05 pm. It's too late to call a place for a reservation. I send a reply to Sarah asking her to call around for dinner reservations first thing in the morning.

I look at the picture on my desk of Kansas, my beautiful wife. I can't believe I'm so lucky to be married to her. She's the best thing that's ever happened to me. I remember the first time that I saw her. I thought she was the most beautiful woman I've ever seen, her long wavy brown hair, olive skin, and those gorgeous brown eyes that seem to be able to look right into your soul. She was the envy of all the girls in college, but it was as though she never knew it. All the guys wanted to date her and all the girls wanted to be her.

I remember the first time that I got the courage to talk to her. She was in the library studying. I walked up to the table she was sitting at. I knew that she knew I was standing there, yet she didn't look up at me, so I pulled out one of the chairs and sat down. After I sat down, she finally looked up at me and smiled. My god! Her smile was so gorgeous! Her brown eyes were even more beautiful up close too. I was totally staring at her. God, I hope she didn't notice. I smiled back at her, "What are you reading?" She just pointed to the open book on the table.

"Don't you talk?"

She nodded her head, "Yes". It barely came out as a whisper. She was so shy, it was cute.

"My name's Braxton. What's yours?" I asked.

"Kansas", she whispered again.

I smiled at her and I swear I seen her blush a little. Everything she did was so cute. I kept thinking to myself that this is the girl that I'm going to marry. I know it sounds crazy as it's the first time that I've actually talked to her, but I knew that she was the "one". We talked a little bit more and I told her that I was getting my law degree and she told me that she was getting her masters in nursing. Wow! This girl was beautiful and smart. She's like the whole package! We ended up talking until the library closed. She was definitely easy to talk to. I walked her out to the front of the library and just kind of stood there for a while as I didn't want to leave. I gave her my number and surprisingly she gave me hers.

I walked back home that night on cloud nine. This beautiful girl actually gave me her number. I kind of thought she had a boyfriend or something because there's no way that this girl would still be single. We were pretty much inseparable from that night on. I would take her out on dates and loved holding her hand everywhere we went. We spent hours on the phone talking and texting. I'm not much of a phone person, but with her everything was so easy.
