Mona sees Dolly leaving at five o'clock, on an impulse she motions Dolly to come to her office. Dolly smiles and walks over. Mona hands her the envelope she prepared this morning, telling Dolly, "I am going to be a few minutes more here until I can leave. When you get to the restaurant, park at the back of the lot. Then go in and give my name for the reservation. When seated, you may order a cocktail to have while you read these over. We will talk about them over dinner."
Dolly is excited as she takes the envelope eager to see what Mona has written. But she does exactly as she has been directed, even though Dolly wants to tear open the envelope as soon as she gets to her car. Realizing that this is just the first, of many, directions mommy will give her, and she does need to learn to do precisely what she is told.
At the restaurant, Dolly orders a whiskey sour and reads the two documents. She feels her stomach flipping as she reads each rule and instructions. It is more than Dolly even dreamed would be possible. Mommy is going to try to be able to nurse her sends Dolly's head spinning.
She is just finishing rereading the documents a second time when she looks up to see her mommy coming towards her. The broad smile on Dolly's face to greet her lets Mona know that things are going to work wonderfully.
When Mona reaches the corner semi-circle booth, she leans and brushes Dolly's cheek with a kiss. It feels so lovely to Dolly. Mona has Dolly scoot into the back of the booth as she sits at her right side.
Mona sees that Dolly has almost finished her drink, so she orders a bottle of wine for the two of them. She knows that as an adult, Dolly should be allowed to have drinks at times, but Mona will monitor what they are and when she can have them. She explains this to Dolly after the waitress leaves.
"I see you have read the statements, are they as a whole something agreeable to you?" Mona asks Dolly.
Dolly starts to respond in her excitement, and words spill over each other. Mona places her hand over Dolly and quietly says, "Baby, slow down, choose your words so I can understand what you are saying."
Dolly blushes deeply, realizing that it is one of the rules. Mona included it as she had noticed when Dolly gets excited about something her talking gets ahead of what she is trying to say.
Dolly takes a deep breath to calm herself, and Mona tells her yes, that is good for her to do. Then Dolly, more composed now, says, "Mona, everything you outlined is wonderful. I know there are things we need to talk about in more detail, but overall it is even more than I would have ever asked of you."
Mona smiles and Dolly and lowers their hands to under the table so she can hold Dolly's hand for a while. The waitress comes back with the wine and takes their order. Mona takes the menu from Dolly's hands, and orders for the both of them. Spaghetti for Dolly and Veal Picante for herself.
Dolly starts to protests that she wants the shrimp scampi but stops herself as she realizes that from now on, Mona will be in charge of what she eats and will always be ordering for her. Plus, she realizes that spaghetti would be more what a child would have.
Mona notices Dolly's start to protest, quickly abandoned, and smiles at her and tells her what a good girl she is going to be when the waitress leaves. Mona pours some wine for both of them but puts only a little in Dolly's glass and then lifts Dolly's glass of water and pours some into the wine to dilute it some.
When their salads arrive, Mona turns to Dolly and picks up the napkin from Dolly's lap and ties it around her neck say, "Baby, spaghetti can be messy, and we don't want to spoil your pretty dress." Dolly blushes as this is being done but does have a warm glow running through her of being treated already like she is Mona's little girl.
