Chaeyeon's POV
Dumbfounded from the fact that Wonyoung had just admitted that she was the owner of the pink diary, I stay frozen on my spot until the younger walks out of the room.
When she shuts the door, a loud thud echoes thoughout the room, bringing me back to my senses. I shake my head and compose myself up, then I walk out to interrogate her further, mostly about that suspicious picture of me that's stuck in between the pages of that journal that she apparently owns.
Along the way, I prepare the questions that I've been wanting to ask. However, a new voice joins and so I wait until she leaves so it was only the two of us who could talk - Wonyoung and I.
I stay behind a wall to make sure they don't notice my presence.
"Wonyoungie," I hear Sakura's soft voice call out. "Remember when we bought similar-looking journals because both of our colors are pink? I think what you're holding is my diary. It got mixed up with yours when we moved here, I guess."
"Omo, good thing I haven't opened it yet. I've been looking around for this lately and I found it in your room."
"Really?"
"Yeah, it was on your table, unnie."
"Well, here you go, Wonyoung-ah." Sakura nicely says, handing out the item that she was holding to our maknae and Wonyoung does the same.
"I'll make sure to put my name on mine so we don't get confused next time." Wonyoung replies with a chuckle. "Thanks anyway, unnie."
Sakura smiles back at her, then they part ways. She heaves a sigh of what-seemed like relief and when she opens the small journal that she was holding, a tiny piece of paper falls, making her slightly jump in surprise.
"Omo." She quietly mumbles as she bends down to retrieve it.
She holds it up in the air with a faint smile. "Neomu yeppeo." Then she tucks it inside a random page.
I blankly stare at her figure until she reaches the living room, farther than where I was currently standing. My stomach was churning for some reason as I try to connect the dots.
Oh my gosh.
No way.
"I'm Jae, aren't I?"
"I don't know what you're talking about." She says with a bitter scoff, attempting to walk away for the second time but I stop her again.
"I'm Jae and you're Akira, right? The 'characters' in that book you talked about in your journal or diary or whatever that was."
I can perfectly see how much her composure changes - from irritated to stoic.
And that somehow really intimidated me.
After swallowing a lump that had formed in my throat at an instant, I try to take hold of her wrist. "Listen, I'm sorry---"
"You have no right to read my diary."
"I didn't mean to---"
"Why would you do that, Chaeyeon?" She snaps, interrupting my attempt to explain myself.
When I heard those words from her, I get hit by the realization that I had no words to say at all, because I was indeed in the wrong here.
"I wrote my feelings in that diary because I'm so scared to let you know. Hell, I didn't even want to let you know," she explains in an incredulous tone. "I wanted to keep that a secret for as long as I possibly can because it was so hard for me to face and accept the reality that I was falling for you and you won't ever be there to catch me."
