Chapter 1: After

"Yaya, I'm doing Fine thanks for asking." James whiny voice echoed from the other end of the line.

"I know you're fine James, what I'm asking you about is the proposal for the expansion in Hong Kong." Her exasperated tone resonated around the room.

" Ya ! I told you they're looking down on me. They didn't even give me a chance to set up a meeting." His dejected voice made her sigh.

"What about the other company? Kugimiya Co?" She asked him, hoping to hear something Good from him.

"Oh, I set up an appointment yesterday. I don't know about this Ya . The owner is too private, you can't even see one picture of him anywhere. Plus, I heard that he's a devil in making deals." His voice back to its whiny tone.

"I bet he's just too ugly to show his face that's why he's hiding."

"James! You're acting weird right now, you aren't usually this negative. Did you fight with uncle again?" She asked in a concerned tone.

She knew James and when he starts acting like a whiny idiot it's either he and Uncle Leo fought or something major happened in the company.

James was someone who took his Job seriously, that's why she entrusted her Grandfather's company in his hands. When pressured, he can perfectly settle everything down with his skills and charm. Only when it involves her, he gets worked up like this.

"The board of directors are at it again Yaya. They think it's too risky to expand in Hong Kong, especially when our dear Miss President refused to show herself personally. I think they're forgetting that you are the majority. You can do whatever the hell you want. "James explained.

"Is it really time?" she exhaled.

"Should I go back there?"

"Yaya, are you sure you're ready? I can hold on for a few more years, don't worry too much about me." He worriedly replied. "Plus, it was you who made this company flourish with your wits and strategies. I don't want you to feel pressured because of some old greedy gorillas."

"James, you spent seven years being my secretary, personal assistant slash slave instead of chasing your dreams." She detailed. "I think it's time I go back and take care of my own responsibilities."

"Yaya dear, I think you're forgetting something. I chose to be the acting CEO willingly, because you promised me a slot as a head designer for Amada ." He retorted.

"I chose to help you because I get to do my duties as a Son at the same time help my big sis in healing herself." He added. "When you think you're ready to reveal yourself to the world, I'll prepare everything."

"That's it! I'm going back home, Prepare for my arrival 3 days from now. I'm going to handle everything here first and No- I'm not going to use the private jet. It's too eye catching."

"Wait! Are you serious? What ab ---" She dropped the call before he can protest.

She felt that she was ready, 8 years of living away from the place where her deepest scars occurred. She felt that she was ready to face her Past.

When they started living in the Mansion, Mae Dao became the only family she recognized.

The helpers at the mansion couldn't care less for the daughter that was left behind.

It didn't help when she decided to sleep at the Maids quarters with Mae Dao, refusing to part with her.

From then on, a 10 year old girl had to experience being ignored by the whole household.

She got used to it, her quiet nature made it easier for them to just let her be and do whatever she wants.

She refused to touch anything her father gave her except for tuition fees.

The good thing was nobody interfered with her school money because it went straight to an account, only Mae Dao had access to.

When she turned 18, her father stopped sending money but she couldn't care less.

At 18, they moved back to Mae Dao's house when they found out about Mother's sickness.

She entered a Job at the Coffee shop near the University, which helped her pay for her Mom's hospital bills, house bills and her school allowance.

She was a full scholar, so she didn't have a problem with university fees.

The coffee shop she was working for was owned by her Best friends Family, making it easier to take a day off when needed.

Add in the Fact that, Her Best friend Kim was like a mother hen to her when they were in College. Kimberly took care of Yaya while she sorted out her messed up life.

Subsequently, she found out that her Grandfather from her Real Mom's side died of a heart attack and Left her everything he owns.

She found out that Her Grandfather Wanted to meet her, but before he could, the tragedy happened. It was sad knowing the possibility of having another Family.

She had hope that her mother's family would accept her despite not showing themselves all these years. However, Things went down the drain when she found out she was the only legitimate grandchild.

Her uncles weren't exactly friendly to her when she met them, and her cousin Liam was an arrogant tool.

Mae Dao died shortly after that.

She grieved for the only person she considered her family.

She became depressed afterwards, all the deaths took a toll on her.

She wasn't eating properly and speaking to anyone.

With the help of her grandfather's right hand man Uncle Leonard and his Son James. They helped her settle down in France to get her away from all her misery and got her into therapy.

Her life turned into a full 180 after that.

65% shares in Chen Corporation and a bunch of properties worth more than a billion dollars, under her name.

She started focusing on her grandfather's business through Uncle Leo, since James was still in school at that time.

The good thing was she finished her degree earlier than everybody.

She became too focused with her business that she slowly learned to cope, but she never forgot.

"Yaya, Are you okay?" Kim's voice broke her reverie.

"Yeah, yeah I'm just thinking." She smiled at her best friend reassuringly.

After 2 years of staying in France, Kim graduated from university and followed after her, insisting she still needed her in her life.

James told her how her precious Best friend pestered him over and over just to find out where she was. Now after 6 years, she was still the same Kimberly who acted like a mother Hen.

"Nope! Not convincing enough. Let's have the rest of the day off. We are having a sleep over!"

"Kim, we live together." She sighed, defeated by her Best friend's Observant nature.

She smiled, nonetheless.
