Chapter twenty-four- You're so cool
-Noelle's POV-
"So how long are you going to be in town?" Anne inquired.
"Until school starts in the fall... So a little while." I replied.
"Do you have any grand plans until then?" She said, trying to keep the conversation up.
"Not really... school is kind of the grand plan. I'm working at Marty's for the time being, that's as much of a plan that I've formed so far." I told her.
"So where are you staying?" She asked, sounding worried all of the sudden.
"I'm in a hotel right now... I'm going to start look for a more permanent place to live within the next few days. Don't worry, I've got it all covered." I smiled, trying to reassure her.
"Well if you don't find a place soon, you're welcome to come back here. I mean, I have the room of course." Anne offered.
"Thank you for the offer, but I think I'll be fine." I replied. There was no way that I could stay here, I mean I loved this house and was extremely familiar with it, but it held too many memories for me. Not to mention that my old house was right down the street, which is definitely something that I could not cope with.
"I don't doubt that. But just in case. Things happen, plans change. You know the whole deal in sure." Anne said, raising an eyebrow.
"I think I know it too well actually." I scoffed. "Do you mind if I use the bathroom before I take the bus back into the city?" I asked, more as a formality because I already knew what the answer would be.
"Yes of course honey." Anne said as she stood and took our empty tea cups into the kitchen. I went upstairs, which had been painted a pale yellow color, and I began to go into the bathroom but I got distracted. Distracted by Harry's room.
Before I even thought about it my hand was on the doorknob. When I entered the room I wasn't shocked to see that Anne had left it untouched. And when I say untouched, I really mean it because it looked as if Harry had still been living here. But he wasn't.
I had only been in Harry's room a few times before because we had spent most of our time together in the basement, so it felt odd to be in here now.
I walked around the room, admiring the place. I noticed he had a framed picture of him and Anne on his desk, which was so cluttered that he couldn't have possible gotten any really work done on it.
As strict as Anne was about keeping the house nice and clean, I was surprised that she even allowed Harry to have a room this messy, and I was even more surprised by the fact that she hadn't cleaned it since he left.
I picked the picture up off of his desk to give it a closer look. I assumed that it was fairly recent. Harry had a casual smirk played out in his face, which I was very accustomed to seeing. Anne was beaming, as if she was the happiest person in the world, all of the people that Harry met smiled like that. I like to believe that he is the reason for that.
"He told me that it would be beyond lame if he took a picture of him and his mom to college with him." Anne said, appearing in the doorway. I put the picture down quickly, embarrassed that she caught me in Harry's room.
"Sorry..." I stumbled, unsure of what to say.
"Don't be sorry, you and Harry were really close. I don't think he would mind that you're here." She said, sensing my unrest.
"I hope not." I said awkwardly. Okay, I think it's time for me to leave now. This is too much to handle all in one day for me.
"Hold on one second." Anne said, holding up her pointer finger. She walked past me and opened one of the drawers on Harry's desk and pulled out another photo. She handed it to me, and I realized it was a photo of me and Harry when we were about 13. We were sitting on the curb, the park that we spent half our lives playing at in the background.
