I had shifted and ran all the way to my pack. The run was long and welcomed, I hadn't even realised how far away his own home was compared to Dante and Gabriel's mansion, either way, it was good, the distance. I needed him far, I needed to be far from him.The wind in my fur and the moon as my guide I felt myself relaxing even as my heart ached, as it broke without my permission. As I entered Greyhound land I paused, panting and stared up at the moon and from the depth of me I howled.
The sound carried over the wind, spreading my heart ache, the confusion of my own feelings and the resentment I had towards the man who made it too easy.
I felt him rub against me then, the scent of someone so familiar yet so distant. I looked towards him as he sat beside me, his snow white fur ruffling in the wind. He had been gone so long that seeing him I felt somewhat even more heart broken. His sunset yellowed eyes met my blue ones.
I whined at my father, raising my paw to tap him before I rubbed against him. He growled fondly and we ended up rolling around with one another. He wanted to cheer me up, bring the sorrow from me and for a moment he did. I reached for him in my mind and I felt him do the same. He sent calming comfort and love with no words as we played as wolves do.
He stayed with me under the moon before he heard something. I caught the scent of pack members conducting the routine patrols of the border. My father stood, licked my face and nuzzled my neck before he bolted off into the wilderness to wherever it was that he disappeared to.
I was found laying on my stomach, staring after him, the pack members shifted and comforted me having recognise my howl. I gave another in greeting to my own father and he sent one back. It gave me the sense of his location without really being fixed. The pack memebers were surprised to hear the reply.
I told them not to go after him before I went for the house. I shifted and put on shorts hidden in the trees.
I found my older brother in my room, a picture in his hand.
"Hey." I greeted hoping I'd get a shower in before I had to really deal with anything.
"Are you okay?"
I looked at him, his eyes were tender, warm and open. I gave paused and pursed my lips.
"I will be." I told him honestly.
"Can we talk?" I sighed and pulled my desk chair towards me and sat facing him, I straddled the chair and leaned my chin on my forearms. "You smell like him..."
"Yes."
"You didn't do it out of spite, did you?" I snorted rolling my eyes.
"Despite what you think, Claude, I don't use people to spite you or anyone."
"I know I just... Wanted to make sure is all. I don't want you regretting anything later." I nodded and he sighed awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck and he handed me the photo in his hand. We were silent as I stared at the image of my older brother in his teens, surrounded by a few other people but one in particular I was more familiar with.
"Your best friend? After Ace that is." He gave me a hint of a smile.
"Beck was a good guy, he didn't deserve the cruelty he recieved." I tilted my head to the side, my brows furrowed and a whine leaving me at seeing my Alpha tear up. "We were preparing to end the year in Madagascar last year when it happened. He had a boyfriend, another wolf so they both knew what they were signing up for. Beck loved the boy and from what I saw it was mutual.
"We were 21 at the time, his boyfriend's mate was an omega from a neighbouring pack and had grown up abused for being smaller than most.
"They ended it, but things got messy. The omega knew what they had been and went insane with jealousy, they thought that Beck wanted them dead, wanted the other wolf back and well, an insecure omega with a bad past and a gun never did anyone any good."
