Something brought me out of my sound sleep. My phone read 2am, I can't decide if it's late or early. Chris is still sound asleep as I slip out of bed.

The whole house is dark as I make my way to the kitchen. I've made this trip often enough that I can do it with my eyes closed.

"You shouldn't be out here alone," he says causing my heart to skip a beat.

"The fuck Jace, why are you sitting in the dark?" I ask, clicking on a lamp.

He was sitting on a couch with a mostly empty bottle of booze. One look told me where most of it went. His grey eyes were glazed and watery.

"Just drinking with all my friends," he slurred out, as I frowned. "Sara would kick my ass if she saw you here, Chris too. Where are your pants?" He asked confused, scrunching up his face.

I blushed scarlet realizing I was walking around in Chris's tank top, panties and nothing else. I grabbed the blanket from the back of the couch and wrapped myself up before sitting down.

"I should go," he mumbled, getting up.

"Sit," I snapped. "You've been running all week."

He scowled like a scolded child as he settled back down. I grabbed the bottle as he pulled it up to take a sip, while he growled possessively at me.

"Really? Thought you said you were drinking with your friends? Looks like I'm behind," I said, raising a brow. Slowly a smile creeps on his face as he releases the bottle.

I gulp the rest of the fiery liquid showing him the empty bottle, much to his dismay. With that I head purposefully to the kitchen leaving him on the couch and spitting it out in the sink.

What the fuck was he drinking? The fuck is Wolf rum?! Jezus it tasted like engine degreaser. After two glasses of water to rinse my mouth I could still taste it.

I filled up a big gulp glass of water and headed back to the living room, passing it to him before taking a seat again.

"Bottoms up," I said.

He frowned, realizing it was water.

"Even when I'm an asshole my elf takes care of me," he mumbles drunkenly. His eyes watered slightly as he sipped the water.

"You've always been a happy drunk Jace, don't change that now," I tease, bumping his shoulder with mine. "Drink up." He takes another sip and just sits there deep in thought.

"I really am sorry Jess, I never meant to hurt you like that," he blabbered.

"I know," I said, giving his hand a squeeze.

"You know I'd do anything for you, right? I just want you safe and happy," he mumbles.

"Then drink up and stop running," I say with a sigh. "Seriously, bottoms up." He downs the cup and hands it back to me. I fill it back up and set it next to him.

"Sleep it off man, we're shopping tomorrow, you volunteered. If I can't get out of it you can't either." I pushed him over and pulled off his shoes before throwing the blanket over him.

"I don't know who you are but my elf doesn't like shopping," he mumbles in his drunken stupor as he drifts off.

I take one more look at him before tucking the blanket in and turning off the light. I made my way back up the stairs stopping at the top. Chris was standing there with an unreadable expression.

"Sorry," I mumbled as I dropped my gaze. He tenderly raised my chin, eyes locked on mine searching.

"Don't be baby," he said softly. "I just woke up and you were gone. I got up and heard you talking with Jace. I just hung around to make sure everything was good."
