Chris POV
I watched as Jess pulled away from me on the bed, eyes watering. I could feel her pain, confusion and anger through the bond. She felt rejected and it tore at my heart.
"Baby please," I whispered, desperate to comfort her.
'Mate, do something, she's in so much pain,' Cyrus whimpered, his own desperation was not helping me one bit.
'I'm trying,' I snapped. 'But she's pulling away, she thinks we don't want her.'
"Why?" She whispers to Jace, her voice laced with pain and confusion.
'Tell her,' I linked him. She deserved to know, I refuse to hide anything from her, this is my fault after all.
'You sure?'
'Yeah, she has the right to know,' I link back.
"Because you're getting ready to shift," he says apologetically.
"I don't understand," she whispers, as her shoulders slump. Her fire's gone out and she's left confused and hurt.
"Why don't we get dressed and hear it straight from Garrick?" I ask, sliding closer to her. She doesn't pull away this time so I wrap my arms around her.
'Give us a couple minutes, we'll be down as soon as she's ready,' I link Jace.
'Take all the time you need, just keep her calm, Garrick and their healer are waiting down stairs.'
Once he left I turned my attention back to Jess. She was quietly staring at the bed but her emotions were reeling. I just held her tight, stroking her hair while she fought to gain control.
"Baby, I promise when this is all over I'll take you away somewhere. Just you and me, no distractions." She looked up at me with those honey brown eyes and I saw hope. "I have a nice little cabin on a lake, we can swim and fish. The night sky is so clear you can see more stars than you've ever dreamt of," I trailed off, caressing her cheek.
"Sounds beautiful," she whispered.
"You'll love it baby, just you and me," I promised. "Come on, let's see what they've found out."
She gets up and dressed quickly, brushing her hair back. Her eyes show all her uncertainty as she looks at me by the door.
"Baby, everything's going to be ok, I promise. No matter what I'll be with you, I'm not going anywhere. Everyone will be with you every step of the way, and whatever comes, we'll face it together," I said as I looked deep into her eyes, willing her to believe me.
Her eyes watered as she fought her emotions. I could feel her fear and uncertainty through the bond, her panic had her on the edge of terror.
"Jess, you are not alone," I said, pulling her closer. "Baby you'll never be alone again." I sealed the promise with a tender kiss before resting my forehead on hers.
"Thank you," she whispers. "Let's go figure out what clusterfuck I'm in now," she says with a sigh.
I can't help but laugh as I open the door and lead us out. Judes waiting at the bottom of the stairs, his eyes are locked on Jess. I still don't like it but it bothers me less and less. He leads us to the study where everyone is waiting.
"Luna," Garrick greets her.
"That bad, eh?" She asks, raising a brow.
"Why don't you take a seat," he suggests. "Some of what I have to say may be difficult to hear and understand," he trails off as he gauges her reaction.
