"But Jess, she's my mate." Judes words sack me. Everything made sense, but I was out of my depth. There isn't anything I wouldn't do for Chris, how can I deny Jude his chance.
"There has to be another way Jude, you haven't slept in days and you have as much focus as a meth head on speed. If you get yourself killed-"
"Promise you won't leave her with him if something happens to me," he cuts in desperate.
"That's not an option, I can barely take care of myself. It's your job to take care of her, there's no back ups, got it?" That seems to get through to him a bit, he stops fighting Jace and although he was still frantic he relents.
"Let me see what I can do," I say as I rack my brain for options.
"Alpha," I greet respectfully.
"Luna," he replies with a smirk.
"I apologize for my packs behaviour, emotions seem to be high," I start, trying to keep my tone even.
"Is the pup backing out already?" He sneers.
"I haven't allowed him to issue the challenge," I reply.
"So she really does mean nothing then?" He asks, raising a brow, sending Jude into a new fit. Fucking great.
"They are property to you right?" Saying it made me sick but I kept my tone impassive. He raises a curious brow. "What is the price on her then?"
"Oh I don't know Luna," he drawls. "I may have others I may sell, but this one," he trails off and I see her flinch.
'This mongrel needs to be put down.'
"You know she's the one I'm after," I grit out.
"But she has such value, she's proven, though her first pup had to be put down," he drawls as she begins to sob. This sick fucker is talking about her like she's cattle, my anger is boiling dangerously.
"Not to mention, potentially a principal Gamma female?" He sucks his teeth like he's deep in thought but this puddle isn't deep enough to get my feet wet. "She's too valuable as a breeder to give up at any price."
An enraged Jude is no match for Jace as he bowls him over. Sara barely slows him down, it took all three of us to stop him.
"Please Jess, I'm begging you! I have to at least try." I couldn't handle his pain and desperation any more.
"I don't approve of it, but I understand Jude. Do more then try." His eyes lit up as he realized I was giving reluctant consent.
"Can he do it?" I ask Sara and Jace. Both look guarded.
"If he was in normal form he'd have a shot, but he's not thinking straight," he cautions. That was not what I needed to hear.
"So we have an agreement?" The Councilwoman asked. Jude nods but Dimitri just lazes against a tree.
"Do we have an agreement?" She asks Dimitri directly.
"No, I think not," he says with a sinister chuckle. Jude lost it at that point.
"Get your pack under control Luna before you bring any more embarrassment to it," he sneers, setting my teeth on edge.
"There is nothing wrong with my pack," I snap back.
"That's debatable. A rogue female head warrior, a rogue Gamma and a human Luna, yeah, clearly Chris is blessed." I know he's just trying to push all my buttons but man, it's fucking working!
"Shut up and take the challenge Dimitri," I growl.
"Why?" He asks innocently. "What do I get if I win?" I stared at him dumbfounded. "That's what I thought, a typical female expecting me to risk what I have for no return."
