Sabrina POV
The past few weeks flew by. After talking to Michael about how I was feeling I thought it was time to go and speak to someone. I have been seeing a trauma councillor once a week to help with everything I am feeling. After my sessions I feel crappy, but I know in the end I will come out better off. Jayla has been a rock star with helping organise the wedding. So far we have already put together a small number of guests. Most of them are from Michael's family but that is no problem.
On top of the small guest list we have organised the celebrant and we are in talks with a catering company for the food. In the next couple of weeks Michael and I will taste some cakes and we can choose what we want from there. Time seems to be getting away from us lately. Today I am about to try on some wedding dresses with Jayla and I'm telling you, I am that scared to try on a dress and ruin it. All I can see is that scene from Bridesmaids and in the street.
"Jayla, can't I just wear something from my closet? A dress I already own?" I ask Jayla, feeling defeated. "Do you have a white dress in there Sabrina? Because last time I checked you had every other colour but white" Jayla shot back at me. I sit on a chair near the dressing room wallowing in self-pity. "I can't wear white Jayla. I'm not 'pure' remember" Jayla huffs at my statement. "Fine we'll find an off white or cream dress. Now get your butt back into that dressing room and try on more of my picks"
I drag my sorry arse back into the dressing room. Nothing in this room is taking my fancy. I find a dress in this room that must have been left by someone else and put it on. The dress is at least 2 sizes too small but I manage to squeeze my arse and boobs into it. "Hey La. I think I found it" I step out into the store and the look on Jayla's face is priceless. The dress is a tight form fitting hot pink strapless dress. It only comes to just under my butt cheeks and even though I can't get it to zip up, I still put on a show for Jayla. "I don't have to be traditional right?" I ask with a cheeky grin on my face.
Jayla is for once in her life speechless. Not even a disgusted sound is making it past her lips. The sales assistant walks over and starts pissing herself laughing. "Please, you have to get married in that dress. It would be the best thing to ever happen" The sales assistant gets out between laughing. I stare at her with an amused look and break out in fits of laughter with her. I go back into the changing room and attempt to get the dress off. "Ummmm ladies. We have a problem"
Jayla pulls the curtain back and breaks into fits of laughter. "You get a little bit stuck there Sabs?" Jayla couldn't hold it in. She is laughing that hard she has tears rolling down her face. After her laughing dies down, she helps me get the dress off without tearing the dress. "Okay Sabs, lets get serious. I have found 3 more dresses I want you to try on. I will give them to you one at a time though"
Jayla leaves the changing room and brings me in the first dress. I put the dress on and cringe at the sight of it. This dress is white and hideous. It is tulle upon tulle upon tulle. "Jayla, is this meant to be a joke" I say walking out from the curtain. Jayla once again has tears pouring from her eyes. She must have been laughing while I put it on. "Oh my god Sabrina. You look like a fucking cloud. Seriously. A fucking cloud" Jayla says while trying to catch her breath.
I go back into the change room and start taking the dress off. I manage to get out of the cloud and place it back onto the hanger. I pass it out through the closed curtain and Jayla passes me the next one. Still in my head over the last dress I don't realise that I have slipped this dress straight on. When I walk out of the change room and onto the shop floor, I go and stand in front of the full length mirror. I am absolutely gobsmacked at this dress. "Jayla" I call for my best friend. I look at her through the mirror and I can see the pool of tears flooding her eyes. The look of absolute love on her face. "I think I found the one, Jayla"
**
Dress shopping is over finally, my back and feet are loving me sitting down. We are in Jayla's car on the way back to mine and Michael's after a successful day of shopping. She is flicking through the stations and stops on the classics. The song playing is the song that Michael sang at the karaoke bar the night he asked me on out first date. I hum the tune quietly to myself. "He was singing that to you, you know. I can't believe how much you have grown in the past 9 months Sabrina. I only hope to be able to keep seeing you shine for years to come"
Jayla's words bring tears to my eyes. "Jayla, thank you so much for being by my side through everything. I am one of the luckiest people on earth to have you in my life. You and Michael are keeping me grounded. I don't know where I would be without you both"
