Sabrina POV

Michael and I have been going strong for just a little under six months. He has made me feel like I am super special in every single way.

It is a Wednesday morning, and I am currently working at the supermarket. Mr Jones has taken a leave of absence so in his place is my co-worker Gary. Gary is a great manager. He has been married to his husband Jarome for close to 5 years. This morning Gary has asked me to help buy a wedding anniversary gift.

"Sabrina, please help me. I have no idea what to get that man of mine, and it is starting to hurt my brain cells" Gary whines at me. "Seriously Gary, you are asking the wrong woman here. I have only been in a relationship for six months. How in hell am I meant to know what to buy for a 5th wedding anniversary?" "But Sabrina......." I sit in the tea room, tapping my chin, deep in thought. "What is the gift for five years?"

I pull out my phone and open up google. I type in 5th wedding anniversary gift and read through the options. One of them stands out and makes me piss myself laughing. Gary looks at me strangely and asks "What is so funny" I reply "Well the traditional wedding gift you should be giving Jarome is already something you give him". Gary looks at me, waiting for my answer. I am laughing that hard that no noise is coming out of my mouth, and tears are starting to fall from my eyes.

"Sabrina, what has gotten into you? Can you now calm your tits and actually tell me what you are laughing so hard over?" "Gary, the 5th wedding anniversary traditional gift is wood. So I am purely guessing that you give and get wood a lot in your marriage" I raise my eyebrows suggestively and laugh so hard that I snort. Me snorting in turns makes Gary laugh at me shaking his head. "You are terrible Sabrina. You were once my sweet and innocent little angel and now look at you" Gary clucks his tongue.

We are both laughing by this point; other co-workers leave the room. I slowly start to take deep breaths and calm myself down. I look up at Gary "I'm sorry love. I have no idea. Whatever you and Jarome like, go with that. Sorry I can't be any more help". Gary stands, and I follow. He comes around to my side of the table and pulls me into a hug. "Thanks for trying lovely". We both leave the tea room and get back to work.

By the time my shift ends, I noticed Michael had come into the store and was doing some shopping. With his back to me, I quietly approach him and whisper in his ear "What are you cooking for me tonight? I hope that you are the dessert?" Michael quickly turns around, looking like he had just seen a ghost with his hand on his heart "Holy shit Sabs. Trying to give me a heart attack?" He leans in and gives me a quick peck. "Sorry baby, but seriously what are you cooking me for dinner? I'm starved" I raise my hand onto my forehead feigning starvation.

Before Michael had a chance to tell me what he was planning on, we heard a loud screech from the store's front. Michael grabs my hand, and we slowly make our way to the front. This woman is still screaming and yelling gibberish. We get to the front, and my eyes lock in with the crazy ladies eyes.

"SABRINA WHERE THE FUCK IS MY FUCKING MONEY YOU UNGRATEFUL LITTLE WHORE?"

I go white as a sheet. My breathing becomes unsteady. Michael puts his arm around my waist to keep me upright.

"Mother, I owe you nothing. Get out of this shop now and while you are at it. Forget I ever existed" Michael rubs calming circles on my back and whispers in my ear "Do you want me to say something to her?" I shake my head no at him whispering back "It'll only make her worse.

She stares me down, and my eyes never leave hers. Watching her unfold and lose the plot, she starts picking things up off the stands at the registers and throws them at me.

"YOU WILL NEVER GET AWAY FROM ME. I WILL FOLLOW YOU WHEREVER YOU GO. I'LL MAKE YOU PAY YOU LITTLE SLUT"

By this time someone had called the police. They walk in and handcuff her, leading her out to the police care. Another officer starts asking questions to other shoppers. When he approaches me, my whole body starts trembling. "Ma'am, do you know that woman?" I nod my head yes in his direction. "Can you please tell me in your own words what happened here just now?"

I take a deep breath "I had just finished work and was shopping with my partner here. We heard a lady screaming at the front of the store. When we came over here, I noticed it was my mother. Me and her locked eyes and then she started yelling at me. Screaming at me that I owe her money. She only wants money to pay for her drugs that she has been taking for the past eight years" Once those words are out of my mouth, I start shaking. 'What have I done' I start thinking to myself.

The officer mentions that he heard my mother threaten to follow me and has suggested that I get an intervention order on her. Michael was an amazing pillar of strength as he took over the rest of the conversation with the officer. He knew I was scared when I wouldn't talk anymore.
