~Is it the same for you?~
I didn't really know where to go at first so I just kept driving until we reached the highschool, which was at the other side of town. It was a quiet drive so I turned on the radio and put on a pop station. Of course chocolate came on and Matty laughed to himself.
"You know most people don't even know the meaning of this song it's truly about disrespecting authority and drugs but people just hear 'chocolate' and they like it. I think it's funny." He smiled a toothy smile and looked out the window. I laughed at his explanation of the song and turned it down a bit. "Where are we, if you don't mind me asking?"
I slowly turned into the field house parking lot to turn around and go back into town to show him around. "We're at Howell Highschools field house at the moment, but I'm gonna drive back to town so I can show you the good stuff." I smiled at him so he knew that I wasn't bored or feeling responsible for him.
"The good stuff eh?" He grinned at me and gave me an up down look. I blushed and parked the car.
"Give me a minute to check my phone really quick, I don't like texting and driving."
I dug my phone out of my bag and turned it back on. It went off buzzing for a good minute receiving all my texts and calls. I had four texts and two missed calls from Doug, a text from Sam, and a call from Kate.
"That's odd." I said not necessarily to anyone but myself.
"What's that?"
"I got a missed call from Kate, Doug's ex girlfriend that he was with today." I explained to him.
"I'm not in a hurry, and that is strange go ahead and call her back." He said looking down at the floor and then lighting another cigarette.
I considered calling her back and reading all my messages, but then I looked at him and saw the look in his eyes. It wasn't sad or excited there really was no emotion. Maybe thought, but it made my heart drop from my chest to my stomach.
"They can wait." I said, with a tone of excitement that I knew Matty heard because he looked at me, took a long drag of his cigarette to where it was a almost half way gone, tossed it, then grabbed my hand and kissed it.
"We're going to be the best of mates, love."
Before I turned my phone back off Matty put his number in so we could hang out again.
We started out our adventure at the small 'Yogurt to go!' shop where you can pick our your flavor of frozen yogurt and toppings. Matty got as many of the toppings that would mix well as he could and together ours were $30 and some change. That was a lot of yogurt. We made a huge mess of the machines and I eventually spilled the leftovers of my yogurt on the ground on accident. Matty ran out while the manager came running at me, yelling in Indian how I was banned from his store.
We roamed into small thrift shops and hobby stores. When Matty almost broke an antique lamp we ran out of the store, all the way to the music store which was a block away and across a street. When we got inside Pete, who was a friend of Mattys and an acquaintance of mine greeted us and Matty almost ran over to the acoustic. guitars.
He grabbed a light wood Martin, which was very expensive and I was nervous he may drop it.
"Would you like to here a song darling?" He said grinning at me with the biggest brown eyes I had ever seen.
"I would love to." I said, sitting down on the cheap dark red leather couch by the wooden stool he was perched on.
He started strumming a few random chords, with squinted eyes, then tuned it ever so slightly, and began to play '102'.
"I called you up
At one hundred and two
We just sat there for ages
Talking about that boy
What was getting onto you
You.""That was amazing Matty, truly beautiful." I couldn't stop smiling from the lyrics. Or was it from his voice?
"Thanks Sky." He said, establishing his new nickname for me, and sitting next me and throwing his arm around my shoulder. He seemed pretty confident knowing I had a boyfriend.
"Shall we continue this exploration?" We both glanced outside. The sun was setting and the clock on the wall read 8:52.
"Are you busy tomorrow? Maybe we could continue then because it's getting lateish." He gave a frown, and sighed.
"Alright I guess.. I just love spending time with you so far." His cheeks redden and he looked away.
"I love spending time with you too, but I should probably call Doug and Kate back and I don't want to start that drama with you here. No offense." I added quickly. His hand roamed closer to mine as he brushed his fingertips over mine.
"Ill be quiet I promise!" He whined, almost childish.
I threw my head back and laughed. "No silly, I don't want to get all upset and worked up again in front of you."
"I don't mind."
"But I do."
He smiled sheepishly and reluctantly got up and we left for my car.
"So where am I dropping you off love?" I asked as I turned the key and adjusted my bag on the floorboard.
"My car is just a block away, but I do wish we could continue this just a while longer" he pouted at me with his bottom lip out.
"Matty I really need to get home," I giggled. "What colors your car?"
"Black." He stated so plainly.
"I should've known that." I chuckled to myself.
"I would really hate to be sleeping alone, after such a fun day." He whimpered at me. I couldn't help but smile at his sad face. It was so adorable, you just wanted to wrap him up and take him home.
I knew I shouldn't be even considering this since I'm still dating Doug but I did let the idea roam through my mind.Matty interrupted my thought. "It would be such a shame, although sleeping with a girl in a commitment would probably be a bigger shame am I right?" He joked. I laughed a bit too loud at this, which made him laugh too.
Why can't being with Doug feel this good? This unreal and perfect? I hadn't felt this happy in a long time. I couldn't lose this moment."Well. Maybe we can spend tomorrow like today but, better?" I said smiling and parking my car behind his. He smiled and grabbed my hand.
"I would be ever so honored to spend my time in your presence, your gorgeousness." He bowed his head and kissed my hand gently. I laughed so hard that I hit my head on the headrest. He was so charming, and fun to be with. I couldn't let this feeling die.
"What a charmer." I said winking at him causing him to blush a bit, which I was proud of. We got out of the car where Matty asked me to put my number in his phone so we could meet tomorrow. He hugged me and I felt so warm inside. It was like that excited feeling you get when you're a little kid and you see something you love, like ice cream, or candy.
"I will be counting down the hours until I see you again my darling." He said still jokingly acting as though I were royalty, bowing again and sweeping his arm across his showing chest. Doug and I never joked like that. It was so refreshing to laugh again. Matt brought the humor and spark back to my life. I loved it.
"As will I." I giggled and pretended to curtsy.
