goodbye

My eyes opened slowly as i woke up I can't remember when I fell asleep but it felt like I didn't sleep at all because I was thinking about ... and then it hit me like a punch to the gut this was it . today was the day I turned 18 the day I got my abilities the day I left mom

I decided to get up because I had to be at the city's selection center by 9:00 everyone in the city would be there and I didn't want to be late I grabbed my graduation outfit that I was given yesterday and ran into the bathroom to change .

I then put my hair up in a half up half down style and looked at myself in the mirror the white robe fit perfectly my robe would be the first thing to change color followed by my hair and eyes .

Once I was done I went downstairs to find my mother crying and my grandma trying to comfort her seeing my mom like this hurt me

I wanted to stay here and take care of her not go fight in a war we aren't even gonna win but I couldn't no matter how much I wanted too I couldn't and that's what hurt the most if she needed me I couldn't help her .

I could feel tears welling up in my eyes no matter how hard I tried to hold them back Haelynn I told myself crying will only make things worse . I wiped my eyes and walked over to my mom

"Mom " I said praying my voice wouldn't crack and show her how upset I was "I know you don't want me to go and the truth is I don't want to go either but ..." I paused thinking of what to say without crying "but crying won't stop me from going " I said

She stopped crying " your right I'm sorry baby I don't want to cry I just ... don't want to lose you like I lost your father " her eyes closed as she started to cry again again just then my adorable giraffe puppy jumped up and snuggled onto my mom's lap making her give a weak smile

"Atta boy hero " I whispered as I stroked his fluffy fur just then I remembered I had to go " hey I have to go now but I'll meet you guys at the ceremony I love you guys " I then blew them both kisses and walked out as I heard my grandma saying"I don't know what your worried about Louisa she is just as strong as her
father "

AT THE SELECTION CENTER
After I arrived I walked up to the woman gathering all my classmates together or trying too
Anyway all of them were too busy chattering I couldn't hear myself think .

I got up on a chair next to the woman and shouted
"HEY IDIOTS " causing them and the woman to look up at me "now that I have your attention this lady is trying to get our selection ready but she can't do that if you guys don't listen to her so I suggest you shut up and do what she says ." They all stared for a minute before finally understanding then they all stared at her .

"Umm yes thank you young lady she said as I got down from the chair I blushed a little "no problem " I said before joining the rest of my classmates

"My name is Clarita and I'm your instructor today as you can tell by my hair and eyes I'm a yellow some of you may get this color in fact most of you probably will because it is such a common color but enough about that here's how your selection will work . First you will all walk onto the stage and sit on 1 of the assigned chairs then once I call your name you will walk up to the center of the stage and select 1 of the crystals if the Crystal breaks it means you are not chosen for that color but if it s intact then that is the color you are . I wish you all the best of luck she said

We all apparently understood because we all nodded just then a bell sounded signaling for us to walk on stage once we were all their the first name was called then another Clarita was right most of my class was yellow with the occasional red or gray and even a green

before I knew it it was my turn I shakely walked to the center of the stage I looked around at all the crystals I decided to go for a blue but it shattered same with the red and Gray so I tried yellow which also shattered which meant I was a ... rare ?

How is that possible ? I tried green but it also shattered which meant my rank was higher then green ? This is a mistake I thought reaching for a pink but again I was met with shards of crystal .higher then pink I thought this is definitely not possible my mom was a pink which means I couldn't go higher then that right ?

I looked up to see thousands of shocked faces the last colors were so rare I don't think there are more then 10 of them I finally had the courage to touch a purple which to my surprise it didn't shatter instead my hair and robe turned a dark purple color I heard loud clapping and cheers sounding immediately after

This is bad I thought the higher the color the more they'll expect from me I thought I walked back over to my seat

I heard my classmates whispering amongst themselves as they shot me dirty looks
"She's such a show off " and "I bet they rigged it to make her look good because her mom was a pink " how dare they bring my mom up like that I was about to reach over to the person who said that and slap them silly but before I had a chance another large round of applause struck the crowd

I immediately turned over to see a boy with black hair and a matching black robe he stared at the crowd and smiled he then turned to us as if to say " see I told you I'd be great one day "

Our eyes met for a second before I quickly looked away he then walked back over and sat two seats away from me

Then the last person went up sapphire I think her name was I only knew that because all of my classmates would pick on her a lot when we were kids

I watched as she touched Crystal after Crystal and they shattered just as they had for me until she reached a pink then I too began clapping for her

"AND THATS IT FOR THE CLASS OF 3020 " a voice said over the loud speaker and clarita motioned for us to stand up and bow which we did

After leaving the stage we were sent to give our goodbyes to loved ones I met my mother soon and I looked her straight in the eye as I knelt down "I love you momma "I said giving her a hug as I held back tears

She had already started crying and she held onto me so tight I couldn't breathe for a second she didn't say anything she just cried
I then kissed her cheek before standing up I moved over to my grandma and looked at her

"we're so proud of you " she said giving me hug"thanks grandma" then it was time to say goodbye to hero I picked him up and squeezed him tightly "you take care of them okay " I said before setting him down I kissed my mom's cheek again before
Turning around and starting to walk away hero began following me .

"No hero you can't come with me this time I have to go alone " I kissed his fluffy head before carrying him back to mom and giving him to her " I love you guys I said one final time before leaving this was it I was going away now with no guarantee of ever coming back .
