Chapter 38-Uncharted Island

The island is located nowhere on the digital geographical map in the computer system after Zeref scanned the chart on a printer scanner and created a digital copy on the screen. "This can't right this isn't located anywhere, as if it doesn't exist, but yet it seems so familiar to me," he recalled and then suddenly had a flashback moment when he as a child and Igneel talking about the island. where he and Larina vacation one time while Larina was pregnant with Natsu. "The Royal families scared island called Aquarius's Barrier." The flashback ended as Zeref looked up the name and discovered that the island is rare and mostly submerged underwater. Once every 50 years or so, it raised up to the surface due to underwater volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and low tides.

"Aquarius's Barrier I always thought that was a mist, a legend that has been long forgotten, Dad are you rally there" Zeref replied as he stared at the logo on the map. He pulled out his phone and dialed a number to call his brother. "Hello," the voice replied. "Natsu, it's me," Zeref replied back. "Hey there, you rarely call me, so what's up," Natsu said and then heard Zeref say words, "I think I found our dad" Natsu widen eyes in relief and felt about to cry. Still, it is too soon for tears. "Where is he?" the pink questioned his brother. "On an uncharted island," Zeref replied as he put Natsu on speakerphone after it gathers its belongings and heads towards his car. "Uncharted?" Natsu rephases, "Yes, I will explain everything to you once I get to your place," Zeref replied while starting the vehicle as Natsu answered, "Wait, you are coming here" the dark-haired brother nodded his head. "Yes, we'll talk more once I get there," Zeref replied and then hung up.

Natsu waited at the door for his brother after 20 minutes when he heard a knock and let his brother in asking what he knows. "Aquarius's Barrier" was the first words that Zeref said that leaves Natsu with a question mark hovering over his head. "What?" Natsu replied after Zeref showed Natsu the map of the island. "It's the Fiore's sacred ground that only royal members are allowed access," said the dark-haired boy. "Fiore, huh, the family that our mother abandoned to have a family with dad" Natsu recap as Zeref nodded his head. "Where is this island, Zeref," Natsu asked, "not far from the Tenrou island beaches, right off the coast from where he has our little private beach," said Zeref as Natsu was surprised. "Really, then how come I have never seen it?" he asked. "That is because it is submerged understand and only raised once 50 years and remains on the surface for 12 days and then sinks back down to the bottom. "Oh, I see, but wait if the island is underwater, then how dad be..." Natsu got interrupted "there and alive, well I did some research on the matter. It turns out that there is an underwater cave that allows us to breathe, and there are rumors of imprisonment for wanted criminals." Zeref explains as Natsu's expression was shocking "Imprisonment???" the pink-haired brother reprised. "Did Dad commit a crime?" he asked. "The only "crime" that our have committed was leaving us behind," Zeref answered as a joke, then became severe with he stated that the fact about impregnating the princess of the Royal family of Fiore. That could be the one and only reason why Igneel disappeared, and now his sons have another reason to believe that he is imprisoned for breaking Fiore law and having intercourse with their princess.

Natsu became confused as to why his father would be imprisoned for being in a relationship with Princess Larina when Igneel himself is the heir to the Dragneel family, who were nobles. Zeref explained that the Dragneel family last their noble status and became commanders after a bankrupt happened and lose everything; marrying into the royal family of Fiore was the only way to get their status back. Natsu was surprised because their nobleman whose family was struggling, and once the truth came out, it was hell to pay. "So Larina's family found out years later, and dad is being punished," Natsu as Zeref came up to him. "This is what you truly meant when you said that the reason dad disappeared because of mom," Natsu finished as Zeref place a hand on this brother. "Yes, and I mean it in a good way, and so please no more sulking; you and I need to head to the island and find our father," Zeref replied as Natsu perked up. "Right, let's go," Natsu yelled as he and Zeref getting supplies ready for the trip as Natsu left a note for his Mom and his little sister Wendy as he didn't have the time to set down and talk to them. Zeref and Natsu got the car, and they drove off to catch the next boat to Tenrou Island.

Once they got there after hours on the boat, the boys headed towards a scuba Gears shop and purchased the supplies with Natsu's saved up money for working overtime that the butler café. Zeref and Natsu headed towards their private beach as Zeref mapped out the location of the underwater cave. "So we need to dive into the bottom underneath the island itself," He stated as Natsu nodded his head, and they both geared up and dived into the deep sea. They followed an underwater digital map device to find the cave, and after swimming toward the destination for about 30 minutes, they reached the underwater with the surface of air. "Alright, we made it," Natsu cheered as he and Zeref got out of the water, removed the wetsuit and gears, and keep their swimsuits on. They left the gears and went deeper into the cave, and after a while, the brother discovered a disturbing site, their father Igneel, in chains with bruises. He had cut marks on his body in a terrible contention, and he is not the only one right next to him is a woman with the same markings and is also chained. Zeref recognized the women, and it turns out to be Larina, his mother. "I don't understand; why are you here, mother," he asked while unchaining her wrist as Natsu helps Igneel, but the chains were not coming undone. "Zeref," Larina spoke and then turned her head to see her other son helping him break the strings with a rock. Zeref did the same thing as they freed both prisoners and were willing to escape but then stopped by divers with underwater mask and spear guns aimed at them. "Halt, you are not going anywhere," one of them took off their cover, revealing a blonde-haired woman, and Larina told her name, "Annabelle."
