Prairie Winter

Winter stripped the prairies bare

turned the earth to stone

And again she is prepared

to face the cold alone

Snow and frost of winter born

Falling from the sky

Been asleep a week or more

Still I don't know why

Cold takes over every space

Scares away the life

Tears are frozen on her face

Blood is on the knife

No friend or lover lingers here

Dark is all around

She only wants to disappear

Where she won't be found

The pain it doesn't last for long

Then only warmth is left

One day here the next day gone

Sorrow put to death

Winter stripped the prairies bare

Turned the earth to stone

And again she is prepared

To face the cold alone
