An Angel's Heart:

Episode 9: My Great Comeback

Awesome. It's been two months. I woke up in my dorm to find that my roommate still isn't here yet. Oh I don't know. Maybe I was forgotten. I walked to the beer fridge and grabbed a can. My phone started vibrating all of a sudden. It was a text from Matthew.

"Hey man, I'm going to hit the tables like, in a while. You wanna join us?"

"Who's hitting with ya?"

"A couple of guys and gals"

"Anyone I know?"

"Eugene. His friends and hey do you know an Angel?"

"Yea I know an Angelina Redfield. Why?"

"She's hitting."

"Oh. Cool."

"So you comin'?"

"Guess so. Which hole?"

"The Blue Ink."

"A'ight, see ya there man. Should be down in a half"

"Cool."

I packed up some stuff and a couple of sticks, then left the room. When I got there, I saw all of them there already. I mustered up all the friendliness I could and walked towards them.

"Hey guys" I said.

"Glad you could make it man, you wanna ref or what?" Matt said.

"I'll just watch." I mumbled.

"Then what'd you come for man? No way, you're getting in there! Mister Champion of Australian youth pool championships 2008 16 year olds division is coming in!" Eugene's friends jeered but it didn't matter.

After the game ended, we all headed towards the hyperdome and went to subway. Afterwards which we watched a night movie. Nothing interesting happened in between. It was about 11.30 when Angel left us and went back to the dorms. I hung out a while longer with the guys before I left.

Three blocks before I get home. What an interesting day it had been. I took out a cigarette and lit it up. This is probably the only moment I enjoyed all day. It would seem though, that Eugene doesn't care anymore, so I guess that was a good thing.

Two blocks more, I threw the stick onto the floor and stepped onto it. I proceeded to take another stick out when I heard somebody screaming. I put my phone and cigarette case aside before dashing towards the scream. When I got there, I saw Angel being forced onto by some funny looking guy. I could've sworn I saw him following us all day.

I ran towards him and pushed him off her. He recovered quickly and tried to grab me but I grab his neck and kneed his sack. He screamed and took out a knife, I tried to grab it but he sliced my wrists and they started bleeding. Angel screamed as he started running towards her but I grabbed a broken brick and smashed his back. He dropped and didn't get up.

"Let's get the fuck out of here!" I shouted and ran with her. I stopped by the spot I left my stuff to grab my phone and cigs then sprinted the rest of the two blocks till we're close to the campus.

She gasped for air and obviously looked shaken. I dropped a coin into a nearby vending machine and grabbed a mother.

"Here, drink this. It will take batch off the shock" I said, with a reassuring tone. But she threw the can on the floor and hugged me, crying her heart out.

I felt shaken by the homo guy but elated at the same time. Finally some interaction between Angel and I. We both sat down as the roadside curb. She lay down on my shoulders and continued crying, I just tried to hush her. After an awkward fifteen minutes, I decided to break the silence.

"Hey, Angel, are you ok?"

"Yeah, I'm fine." she said in a weak voice.

"Are you sure? Let me send you back to the dorm ok?"

"Ok. Thanks for the save, Ty." she said, expecting a reply from me.

"No problem" I said softly, not knowing what else I could say anyway.

"Listen, I know I've been really mean to you by ignoring you for the past I don't know, a month?" she tried to say.

"It's two actually" I cut in.

"Yeah, I guess I just didn't know how to feel, you're just everything I've wanted in a guy but I was scared. I've played with fire before and got hurt, if you know what I mean."

"I understand, but it doesn't matter ok Angel? I'll always be here for you." I hugged her tighter.

It was midnight but we spent some time catching up and talking about other things while looking at the stars. She seemed much better now. After a while she said she was tired an wanted to go home. So I sent her back to her dorm room.

Outside Angel's dorm,

"Well, I guess this is you then huh?" I asked her.

"Well um, would you like to come in?"

"Sure!" I said. Trying to hold my excitement.

We went into her dorm and chat a while further. We waited till it was one in the morning before I said I should probably leave.

"Hey um, Ty, could you spend the night her with me?" she asked softly.

"Sure, I'll just sleep on the couch." I offered, but she refused.

"I mean, sleep with me in my bed." she said slowly but shyly. I blushed. I didn't know what to say.

"Please?" she asked again. I walked to her bed and sat down. But she grabbed my shoulder and pulled me onto her queen-sized bed. I stared at her face and she looked at mine. Slowly, I put my hands around her waist and hugged her. We both fell asleep within seconds.

So this is love.
