I already knew where Katherine would be, and spotting her was like finding a rose blooming in the summer- expected though still ever so beautiful and breath-taking.
As we neared her, she hadn't noticed us at first, but soon her head lifted, and she flashed me one of her wonderous smiles, her eyes softening with love filling them though tonight would prove challenging. The look she had given me was as though she was communicating through her eyes that "we got this".
Stopping in front of her, she smirked, and I soon saw green, the colors of the changing lights panning over Katherine's features.
"Punch? Or, perhaps... a candle?" Her brow arched, knowingly, and my memories travelled back to the night prior.

The room was dark, the last light source, coming from the lamp, having been turned off by Jack. Katherine lit a candle, and we soon joined her, sitting in a circle around it.
"The goal of this ritual we will be doing is to bind magical energy to the candle. If successful, the flame will go out, to be used again later by my calling," Katherine explained. "This is just an ordinary candle right now, but after the spell, it will be able to detect magical energy in the vicinity, the flame growing and beaming brighter when nearing in on the source, and being put out when in a six feet range from it."
Jack's eyes narrowed down at the candle, studying it, a question seemingly forming in his mind.
"Wait, but aren't you a celestial being as well? Wouldn't it just cancel out immediately when near you? How will this work?"
Katherine wore a soft smile, the warmth of the candle mixing with her pale complexion.
"Good question. It won't fizzle out while I'm around because I put an undertone coating of another spell beforehand, so when it detects my energy, it will just read it as though I were a human."
Jack nodded, in comprehension, his dubious look fading, and I looked up at Katherine, wondering what she had needed.
"Anything I can help you with?"
Katherine's eyes still focused on the candle, she nodded her head. My smile lifted across my face, happy to be of use to her.
"I need another person in order to perform the spell." The blond turned her head, and her gaze was ever so gentle; loving. "Will you be that person?"
"S-sure. Um, does the fact that I have no magic hurt at all?"
I was just a human after all, and this looked like a pretty complex ritual.
"Everyone has some magic in them. It's just less in you than it is in me. If you're living, you're breathing magic." I guess that made sense.
Wow, kind of cool to think I had a little bit of magic mingling with the blood in my veins. Also, really crazy. Because, there was a large portion of my life where I never knew any of this had existed. But now, it was becoming second nature- my new norm.
Katherine, having memorized the words for the ritual from one of the magic books she had tucked away, soon began the ritual with Jack stepping out of the circle and I now across from her, the candle in the middle.
"The core of magic is emotion. The stronger the emotion, the greater the strength of the spell," Katherine asserted, gazing into my eyes, and I slowly nodded.
"And, what emotion will we be focusing on right now?"
Katherine's lips stretched, a glimmer in her eyes.
"Well, considering I'm an angel, I don't really have much practice with magic, so I will tie this with an emotion that won't harm us if things were to go wrong... passion."
