I took a breath, and, suddenly, I was somewhere else.
A bright and blinding light had surrounded me, it's efflorescence overwhelming and leaving me with the sense of sorrow- the emotion that was always paired when seeing that certain glow.
What..? Where..? Where am I?
The light was abiding and unwavering, its intensity leaving me under its compulsion.
It was a reminder of a nearing end and of another beginning.
I extended a hand, wanting to approach the light, only for it to beam brighter prior to diminishing. I fluttered my eyes, frowning at the disappearance, though took a moment to scan the atmosphere.
It looked an awful lot like... my old bedroom.
I could hear the downpour of rain outside my window, and I approached it, as if compelled to.
And, there she was- Katherine. She was right outside my window, staring at me. She still looked just as beautiful while her light hair and dark clothes were drenched. Her magical eyes had glistened in the moonlight, almost dream-like.
I watched as her head tilted to the side, a curious though warm smile resting over her thin lips as she stared at me. I mirrored her tilt, and her smile widened slightly.
It was that smile that had stolen my breath away. It was that smile that could work its way to my heart, mending and repairing some of the torn and broken pieces within it. It was hope. Through her eyes, I was sure. I could see a reflection within them of how life was meant to be- how it should be.
I slowly extended out a hesitant hand, laying my palm flat against the surface of the glass window, and she did the same. Without the border, we would had been touching.
My heart raced in my chest as my eyes dilated, examining the woman from the other side, yearning to let her in. I then offered, but she shook her head, her lips now pursed, though softly smiling.
"Not yet," she uttered, her voice sweet and tender as it reached my ears.
My eyes narrowed, a sorrow and astonishment encompassing them.
"How come? Katherine, it's me. You know me."
Her expression was inscrutable, her eyes peering into mine though giving me no answers. A corner of her lips quirked upwards, slightly, and I couldn't help but feel enticed by the action.
She leaned forward, planting a kiss onto the glass while looking at me through her lashes.
"Yes, and I know you aren't ready."
I squinted my eyes, becoming more and more lost by every new sentence she would communicate with me.
"Ready?"
She nodded, slowly, though soon moved away from the window and stepped back into the rain.
"It's pouring really hard right now, isn't it?" She spoke with a small grin plastered across her face.
I watched as her eyes shut and her head rolled back, letting the rain trail down her body.
"The universe has a beautiful sense of fatalism."
She looked so at peace out there, soaked in the beading droplets, like she had come to terms with something.
Her eyes soon opened, and she searched for mine, an intimacy behind her irises.
"Nature cannot live without rain."
***
My lips parted as I exhaled, feeling my lungs hurt from the lost breath, and my widening eyes slowly narrowed down to my stomach, noticing a sharp knife having penetrated right through me.
